Vintage New Old Stock Leatherman Pulse
on: May 17, 2025, 05:37:56 AM
I had been eyeing this for a while, but finally pulled the trigger and picked up a vintage new old stock Leatherman Pulse (1000 date stamp). I picked this up for a great price from the child of a deceased shop owner that was selling off some old things they had stored on the back room inventory shelves. Apparently this one was one of about ten that had been sitting on the shelf for a couple decades+.

From the looks of it, it has never been out of the box since leaving the Leatherman factory in Oct 2000. No rust - just a bit stiff but a little penetrating oil and working the tools for about 20 minutes loosened things up considerably.

Knife blade seems a bit more refined than a lot of Leatherman blades I have seen over the years - and probably the sharpest. Also one thing I was not aware of, is that the Pulse scissors seem to have very fine serrated section near the tip of the blades. Tested it on a few materials and seems to cut thru tougher stuff like zip ties very efficiently. Not sure if this was a feature of other models around this time or just the Pulse.

It is going to fulfill its destiny and will a user.

A couple of months ago I found a NIB Crunch at a local hardware store (New Zealand).

I love the Pulse. I just never carry mine because the locks are so stiff. I never could figure out a way to loosen them.

Actually, you really need not worry about using the locks!
With any implement deployed, to release it, just select another tool in that handle, and pull out about 2/3s, then you can close both. 😃
