Old Wave with a pocket clip
on: November 12, 2007, 11:17:42 PM
I have just bought an old wave and am looking at putting a pocket clip on it.

How easy would this be to do?  Is it just a case of removing the screws (would need the specific bit for it) and then using a pocket clip similar to that of a Kick, or is it not that simple?

Thanks

Benner

Sounds like a good idea for a mod. Sorry I can't help much as I don't have mod-experience... But as a fan of the Wave and Pocket clips in general, I wish you good luck. :)

Anything is possible, some things are just closer to impossible than others.  :P

I hate to say it Benner me boy, but this one is going to be a challenge. The original Wave itself doesn't lend itself to being clipped. You can't use the big-headed screws up by the plier head. They are critical in keeping the outside-opening blades lined up and functioning properly.

Which leaves the little screws on the opposite end. Unfortunately they are recessed, and the heads are smaller than the hole in a Kick pocket clip.

Short of welding the clip on, I don't know how you could attach it.  ???

Yeah I don't think it's going to be an easy one.  Might end up using blu-tac.  :D

Just wondering... I don't have an original wave, and am not sure how that "cap" piece at the end of the handles is made. Could you drill it and screw one on? I know knifekits.com has parts/pieces to add clips to knives.

I suppose it could be done...although there's not much room left on the little cap for additional holes.  :-\

Yeah, I guess that would get pretty tight. And I would guess most pocket clips would be designed to take up more room like would be available on a regular knife...

I suggest retiring it for collection, or selling it and getting a new Wave, and buy the pocket clip, as it already has a slot fitted for a pocket clip, and many other mods by the looks of it here.

From the rant I got when I asked New Wave or old that Benner gave I am sure he doesn't EDC that Wave anymore ::) :D

I don't see myself getting rid of it. It seems solid, and I have bought the clip and lanyard ring. The accessories make it great also, plus looking at the mods, you can build different things to use in the bit driver, and use saw blades in the slot for the pocket clip. i know something better may come along later, but if I am gonna have something, than I wanna expand on the use of it as much as I can. Just like my Sirius Satellite Radio Equipment, I have a plug and play, but got a car kit, home kit, and boombox to make it more versitale. Now that the Sirius/XM merger passed, there will be new stuff coming out, but I will buy it only when I need too.

the old Wave wasn't as versatile as the new 1 though :-[ those are just some of it's improvements :D You couldn't add near the things with it ;)

Dexter, did you make that?  Looks really nice, a lot classier than the clipdraw.  I assume it's attached with adhesive?

Thanks! You have made my day. I got the idea from Clipdraw, but to buy one here in SA is way too expensive. You assume correct - high bond double sided adhesive, homemade clip from cheap SS plate.
