108mm Fireman Question
on: June 10, 2013, 01:46:00 PM
I picked up a 108mm Fireman on Saturday ... I must confess I thought it was a bog standard hunter till I saw the Serrated gutting blade :) so far so good.

But some time in the past some genius decided to scrape of the Fireman logo

, other than that its in great condition even has the saw guard.

SO the question is should I have a go at restoring the Logo ... or should I just leave it in its de badged state also does any one have a close up of the logo just in case :)

I was going to add option 4 find the person who did it and demonstrate the pros and cons of a serrated gut hook :)

Here's a pic of the logo, my suggestion would be just to put your initials it? JR

I say 'Go for it!' Shame it's been abused - it's a great logo, but it's a brilliant knife so you're up on the deal overall.

Let's see more when you've finished.

Best wishes. :tu:

Or maybe you could get the scales replaced/sold by Victorinox...... :-\

I would try this route first....and if you have a neg answer, perhaps a custom scale in Wood or G10 with the Fireman logo engraved in it.

Are you sure someone removed the fireman's logo, that does not make much sense.  Maybe it was just a hunter with a serrated gutting blade and  someone did not like the cross, makes more sense, but I know "sense" often does not apply.

Either way if you want to do something with the logo area then go for it.  I'd probably just smooth it out, and leave it or then glue an emblem of some type there.

Ps. If the logo detail image on the wiki is not large enough I probably have it in a large size.

It is defiantly the fireman logo or something very similar its a swiss cross with 2 crossed somethings its been scratched out but the pattern is clear .

If it was a hunter it would meant cutting off the embossed cross smoothing it  and then scratching in the fireman logo , then modding it to add a serrated gut hook :) however I do agree that makes more sense to us than messing with a rare knife :)

Thanks for the offer on the logo :)  I thought I might aslo see what I can find in the way of fireman pins.

Note these were available with serrated gut blade, that would not need to be a mod.

Also thought this could have need done to get a surface to glue an emblem on, and the emblem has fallen off.

On Saam's 108mm page the photo of the fireman seems to have the logo printed directly on the scales

http://victorinox.saam007.com/108mm.php

I think you are right any sort of fix should involve a creating an oval with the logo that could be inserted
