So if you had to reccommend a gerber multi to a friend what one would you urge them to get and why?

I'm quite interested in getting an old gerber woodsman or an mpt, but truth be told I don't know an awful lot about gerber multi's, so here's your chance to name and shame your gerber of choice ;)

I must admit the interchangable multi always struck me as a great idea, to be able to taylor it to your exact requirments would be great :)

I'm suprised it's not a more common feature :)

The greatest thing about Gerber is that they are not afraid to try things with their multitool designs. Strange, radical things. Like the Recoil, with a spring loaded plier-firing mechanism. Or the ridiculous Radius, with huge sideways-opening blades. Or even the 650 that you guys mention, with interchangable plier jaws, but no ability to fold up properly.

Utterly crazy designs, but you gotta love them for trying!  :)

Honestly, the best Gerber IMO is the 600-series tool with needlenose jaws. It's the workhorse of their line-up.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Very astute observation, J-sews!

Some of those Gerber designs are indeed quite strange and radical...  The Radius design does seem just a little bit crazy...  And I must admit that my Suspension, while I like it and think it's a decent value, is one pretty strange looking multitool...

But, what's the harm in a little experimentation, so long as Gerber keeps turning out the good old reliable 400, 600, and Diesel series?

I definatly think that Gerber is the Wenger of multitools though, there product diversity and willingness to experiment has got to be one of there strongest assets :)

Leave the dents as they are- let your belongings show their scars as proudly as you do yours.

I agree with Bob but I will go that bit further,
This IMO is the best Gerber  - Pro Scout - as I think you are in the UK try-

http://www.shop4gerber.co.uk/gerber_mp600deluxe.html

Has just about everything but IMO you need the tool adapter whatever Gerber you get. Better pouch with everything stored in one place. Bits are far more usefull than the ones that come with any multi tool.

Cheers for that, £52 is pretty good value for UK prices ;)

Of all the gerbers I've seen so far I've got to say I still like the woodsman best as it's got all the feature's I like best ie straight blade, file, scissors, and a woodsaw :)
