s2 vs cs4
on: June 18, 2010, 06:00:59 AM
i am considering upgrading my s2 to a cs4, but the criteria would have to be pocketability.
i was wondering if anyone could give me a good idea of the size difference between the two, if anyone has both tools pics would be highly appreciated. thanks

If you get the CS4(wise move BTW), Order a Victorinox Jewelers screwdriver. It fits perfectly in the Juice corkscrew :tu:

From left to right:

S2, C2, SC2, KF4, CS4, XE6, Pro.

There's not a huge amount of difference - not enough to worry about I wouldn't have thought :)

Daaang!  I thought I was looking at a motorcycle chain.   :)
Nice view of a nice collection.

I love my S2.

What tools are you missing from the S2 that you want?

well the corkscrew would be kind of nice to have. i carry the s2 for the scissors and so i would need to have equal or better scissors.

mostly i am planing to send my s2 out for repair(replacemet) as the pliers have developed a bit of wobble and the scales also have loosened.

i figured that i would get the cs4 to put on my keychain while i wait for the s2 to come back.

also i just want to have both.

Sounds as though you need an SC2 (Scissors and Corkscrew) :)

I love the CS4, it's either equal too if not better than most of the SAKs that are out there except maybe the Wenger 585 with its locking main blade.

But if you don't care about a locking main blade, the CS4 is short, stout, and is extremely solid. Feels good when in use and the blade sharpens up in no time with the help of a ceramic rod..

You can either EDC the CS4 in a quality sheath with its clip back, or just with jeans since it sits perfectly in the so called "zippo" pocket. If you don't care about a locking blade, the saw and the corkscrew are definitely nice additions to have. Pop a lanyard on it and you're good to go..

Cheers,
Serge

The CS4 is a pretty decent MT, I never used a corkscrew or scissors though, so I end up selling mine when I got my hands on a replacement Kf4.  I do think that it'll be a little heavy for keychain use, though.   Would be perfect for a jeans watch pocket.

I guess it depends on how much wine that you drink.  I'm a beer man myself.  If I ever did have to open a wine bottle, I would just put my serrated blade through the cork and twist it through.  I have seen it done.  It is just a waste of a tool for me.

well i dont actually drink enough wine to make the corkscrew a neccesity, but i have everything but the corkscrew so i figure i should get one.

as to the carry, i currently have my s2 on a keychain and its nearly perfect for that. so my main concern is about how much of a size/ weight difference there is.

daves bike chain picture was quite useful for the size comparision. so i think i am going to get the cs4 and give it a shot, although the idea of the sc2 is a much better idea. i really dont need a main blade or saw on my smal tool. the s2 is part of my edc setup only for the scissors and pliers. i have a k503 for a main blade.
and the charge has a saw.

Just to clarify - the SC2 is an S2 with a corkscrew - it is quite a bit smaller than the CS4 :)

Ebay would be your best bet. Since the SC2 was a limited production run they are pretty rare. The CS4 would be a better option.

They are a bit tricky to find, but it might be worth holding out for if you're concerned about the CS4's size....

Or do what everyone else does and get both ;)
