ever heard of 'slime mild' or 'dog vomit fungus'?

yeah neither did i.   i was in my back yard last night and out of the corner of my eye i see this bright (i mean bright) yellow splat looking thing.  yeah it looked like neon yellow dog vomit.  i just had to take a pic and share on face book.  well i checked up on it today and its all but dried up and has turned brown now...  still really nasty looking stuff

It's 'slime mould', not 'slime mild'.

I read a bit about them in a book by Bill Bryson ages ago. Interesting stuff!

Slime molds are awesome creatures.  You should be proud.  It takes extremely specific conditions for a slime mold to thrive.  It is an ultimate scavenger, turning wood into very fertile soil.

Slime molds have properties like no other creature on earth.

I saw one once while geocaching. It was right beneath the cache, slimy and bright yellow.

Well sorry for not showing my appreciation but having to study the reproductive cycles of slime molds was one of the things that finally made me drop the biology part of my degree and focus on physics .  In retrospect I'd have been even better off dropping both and taking one of the design courses as there were far more attractive young ladies, better job prospects and they spent way more time in the student union bar
