Victorinox Scientist

I decided to put together a Scientist for you Scientist lovers out there, I had the parts and thought I would help satisfy a little of the insatiable demand there is for these. I used all new parts so this thing is sharp and clean. Goes to the first person with $85

Nice to see you used a non-fluted corkscrew to avoid confusions with originals :tu:  :salute:

Good luck, they make fine EDC SAKs, I have one on me right now :)
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Yes sir- not out to pass it off as an original, just trying to satisfy those who think it the perfect EDC. Also I am shooting a PM your way :)

Actually, there are Scientists w/ non-fluted corkscrews (and pins). The vast majority of Scientists are not, but the later models do exist.

At present I mark inside the liners to also make it clear that anything I make is not original but I think I'll need to do something more visually obvious to avoid them ever being sold in the future on ebay or the like as something they are not.

I was sure there had been a thread on SOSAK and no one had seen a non-fluted model.  What did I miss? :(

I think if I was in the market for a collectable Scientist rather than a user I'd want to only buy one that came with its original box to be sure  :-\

I own an original Scientist w/out the fluted corkscrew.  Sorry, I don't participate much on SOSAK anymore--hardly at all, actually.

Thanks Terry.  As that's the case I think I'm going to add a notch to the liners of my future mods to make it apparent what they are without having to open the tools up.

The ones I had (just one left for me) are without the fluted corkscrew and pin.
(They came from old stock found in a local store).

I stamp all my customs with a number (date code) under the corkscrew for this very reason - see here: http://dorkiphus.net/imghost/mod/CustomSciLED_2.jpg

I said before on SOSAK and I'll repeat here - modding 91mm knives is very easy. If prices go too high you will, without a doubt, see people mod up "rare" models and try to sell them on eBay as originals. This will be a bad thing for collectors.

It wouldn't surprise me if this has already started to occur :(  Unless the modder has plenty of practise it should be obvious from the tool action to a serious collector that a mod is a mod.  To those who haven't played with a few hundred or more SAKs possibly not ....  :ahhh    Aside from the Scientist, Yeoman, Salesman can you think of any others that are now rare but reproducible from recent parts?
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Along with the Passenger, the Woodsman and the Modeler are a couple easy to mod "rare" knives. They can all be made pretty easily from old Champions, which are very plentiful. Scientists and Yeomans are a little tougher, but still easy.

I wouldn't have thought the Woodsman and Modeller were rare enough to be worth the hassle   Though with not hitting ebay for SAks for well over a year I'm a bit out of the loop :)  What kind of prices are they fetching?

Last Woodsman I saw sold for $44.

FWIW, they're not rare, really, but people think they are, so that's where the high prices come from.

I've actually got a Woodsman to sell.  Its never been used but has damaged sales so I think I'll take pictures of it nude before rescaling to sell.  That way I can show the factory fitted bushings :D

Hey Guys,

I just received my modded Vic from Ben.  It looks awesome and I would definitely recommend getting one.  Ben really did a great job.

I paid $44 for a Woodsman because it had a BUNNY on it.

If it's what I think it is, you got a bargain; the animal series of Victorinox knives are exceedingly difficult to come by. :/

Well I have no idea what I got, but it has black scales with a nice silver inlaid bunny on the top.  They don't hop past everyday, but it could be an advertising knife or it could be part of a series. No matter she's only hopping to visit her near by friends, she likes her new home.

Grant, I believe, did a post on the Bunny Woodsman a while back on SOSAKonline; it's worth a view, and gives a bit of information behind the animal series. :)

Don't remember seeing that, can't seem to locate it with search.  Is this 'animal series' distinct from the Canadian Wildlife Series?

Mine appears to be from a special order made for the original "The Nature Company" retail chain.  Would be great to find out which other models/inlays they had.

I'm pretty sure yours is the latter. The Canadian series had maple leaf inlays.

There is no question, the Woodsman is not part of the Canadian Wildlife series.  I was just asking if there was another known series distinct from the Canadian one.  I thought there might be some confusion on the naming of the series.

I'll check SOSAK forum for information on another animal series.
