Each state of Australia is different. In Victoria where I live there is a zero tolerance on people carrying any form of weapon. Unfortuanately this includes all forms of knifes regaurdless of size or type.

I now limit myself to a small multitool as I feel that I would be pretty hard done by to be fined for carrying one, but with the risk of a $1000.00 fine and confiscation of the tool means I no longer carry anything on my belt.

Just watched the vid. Ouch! I'm sure the policy was made law with the best intentions (... or to grab votes

) but when it means you can't even carry a 58mm Classic without risk of a $1000 fine that's bad. From the sound bites there "there is never any excuse to carry a knife" I'm assuming that the actual law isn't quite that draconian or trades folk would be stuffed doing their jobs.

Its sound bites though, what even he probably means is "there is never any excuse for being a scumbag and carrying a blade to go out hurting and threatening people". But there are too many syllables in that

We had similar lines from the Chief of police over here a year or two ago and he knows (at least he better do) that's not what the UK law states.

That has to be one of the worse places to live on earth (and I love Australia)... if they have laws like that and people who can make such speaches you know there is other **** happening there. It sounds like a revolution might be needed there. People who can utter such crap are really ill...
