At least SOG aren't shy about it..  :)

Micro ToolClip - Black
Overall Length 3.75"
Weight 3 oz.
Edge Straight
Handle Zytel
Country of Origin China
Price $20.00

That is my point exactly.  :tu: A ToolClip for $20 is a great retail for a tool that is made in China. If the quality is there, I don't have a problem with it. Now if that tool cost $50 and was made in China I wouldn't be happy. Make sense?

Thats what I'm talking about,
if SOG bowie made in Japan/USA and cost $300 its OK for me (but its overpriced, again)
but if it made in Taiwan and cost $300  >:( :o .......,no,thank you......:salute:

Even if the quality is the same?

Personally, I think the value of an item is in how it performs, how it is finished and what it is made of. I couldn't give a rats behind what country it originated from, I just like good tools.
I'm back!!

Boss Street -$227

Yeah and is it even available for purchase right now?

Limited Edition Bushwacker Mistress - $597

I will add a couple $100 bucks and buy this one instead SOG Bowie, made in Taiwan for $300.           :salute:

My comparable taiwan SOG to boss street cost $60, hardly the $300 sog or $300 busse example you gave. Besides the SOG kiku knives which are really handmade customs, there isn't one that's even close to the $300 price mark you give. Even the most expensive from the line up which is the Creed, goes for less than $140 on amazon.

4 to 8 weeks, doesn't sound like it's actually available. Then add in the cost of a good sheath, no longer under $300.

A little over $300 for Busse,
but way better than $300 for SOG Taiwan  :salute:

Like I said, there is no $300 SOG, their most expensive production model goes for $140, you are just making numbers to back up your claim.

That's the 20 year anniversary model, and it goes for $160 on amazon.

Besides something comparable to the $300 busse would be this, which I paid less than $60 for. http://sogknives.com/store/S241.html

You compare SOG knifes, made in Taiwan and cost less than $60 to Busse $300 knife?
I know you just kidding... :D
Why so many buy SAK/Swisstool - b/c its Swiss made (and not only that)
Why LM is so popular, even with a little bad QC (not all models,of course) - b/c its USA made and very useful.
Why Gerber is not so popular (not all) - one of reason b/c a lot of them made in China (and not only that)
But,again,its just my IMHO

Now c'mon CumminsDiesel, that's not it at all. Like we've been saying: it's not so much about WHERE something is made. It's about HOW WELL something is made.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

No, I'm refuting your original argument.

If you have a choice to buy SOG Bowie, made in Taiwan,$300 or Busse Combat Knife (for example) made in USA for around the same price, which one you choose?

You took a knife brand whose most expensive model still cost half of the least expensive model of another brand, and claim the former is overpriced and you'd rather have the latter. I showed you a comparable model from SOG that only cost 1/5 as much which is nowhere near as overpriced as you have argued. So SOG is not really overpriced compare with u.s. made knives.

All right,so tell me please, why SOG Bowie made in Taiwan cost less than SOG Bowie made in Japan? Both are very well made.

Because many different influences are cheaper over there.  That's why a lot of things are manufactured there, because the costs are cheaper.  Good QC prevents any rogues and companies like Spyderco for example prove it can be done.

I see nothing wrong with supporting your fellow countrymen by buying locally made goods. On the flip side, not all Chinese/Taiwan made goods are junk. Look at what happened to Japan post WW2.

I am reading a bit of hostility in some of these posts…I think everyone here needs to cool down and keep this civil folks.

Nothing wrong with that, but making up reasons to put down another brand is annoying at best.

As you skated past my post I thought I'd post again just in case you hadn't seen.

One minute you claim the quality doesn't bother you, then you say tools made there mean poor quality?  seems you have some inconsistancies there.

What makes me laugh is that some people here have clear preferences to country of origin and like to say that, but like to go the long way round about getting there.  John (Gadget guy) just says what he thinks involving 0 BS.  You then knows where he stands and if that is how he feels, so be it.  That isn't necessarily my angle but this is an opinions forum for us to share opinions and they will quite commonly differ.  What is annoying is when someone feels something but feels the need to write something which doesn't make any sense.  Just say what you want to say.  If you are worried about offending some, then don't say it.  Don't back yourself into a corner and then argue the toss for the sake of arguing the toss.
I'm back!!

Only time will tell if the quality on the stuff that is made in Taiwan will hold up or not, so far the Taiwan made MT’s and Flash 1 I have are top notch and can’t really find any difference from the US made tools.
I myself don’t like outsourcing but there is nothing that we can do about it, SOG can either end up like Gerber or Spyderco. If the quality of the Taiwan made tool/knife is good then I can’t see any problems paying for it as it was made in the US since I know that SOG are putting money into QC.

Before I was skeptical about stuff made in Asia and automatically believed that it was crap, but after using bags from Maxpedition (made in Taiwan) and giving them a rough time, pant’s from 5.11 (made in China) that I have been using for hiking, tool pouch from Tasmanian Tiger (made in Vietnam). It’s the company that decide the quality of the goods that are coming out of the factory.
There is no problem that cannot be solved by the use of high explosives.
