Alright, I don't generally wax prophetic about flashlights, but I did want to share this - I present, the Mighty Mite Lite
Ho-hum, right?
Alright, well here it is next to a standard size AA battery
That's not a giant novelty trick battery or anything, so yeah, very, very small. It measures out at 36MM long, and 11 grams in weight. Just like very other dollar-store keychain light, right?
WRONG.
What makes this light so special is the output and the runtime. It's manufacturer rated at 15 lumens for 10 hours. Yeah.
15 lumens for 10 hours - and it runs off of four watch batteries. In contrast, the Leatherman Monarch 300 is rated at 16 lumens, but with a two hour runtime and off a standard AAA cell - and it's much larger. In comparing the light output, they are remarkably similar in a totally dark room. I really don't have any reason to doubt the manufacturers output rating. As for time? Well, I ran it the entire night while I slept on the in-package batteries, and it was till going strong the next morning. It had dimmed noticeably, probably to about 60-70% light output, but it was still running.
The body is machined aluminum, the threads are clean and well-fitted with no burrs, and have o-rings front and back for splash resistance. The LED is recessed behind the front spill, but there's no lens so I'm not going to call it waterproof.
Price paid? $10. Heckuva deal, and half the price (and way less than half the size) of a Maglite 2aa or 2aaa, or Leatherman Monarch 300, which have comparable output.
