I have not noticed it getting stuck in the original painted configuration or with the paint removed. It might...depending on the number of dents an individual canteen and cup has collected during it's service life.

I bought a lot of six of them and a few were in worse shape than others.

Here's one I cleaned up and re-corked.

The mug is secured with an extended loop tied into the cork lanyard. I suggest making careful observation or taking a photo of the original cord before untying it...so that you can re-tie it in the same way.

I'm still up in the air on whether to use the swiss canteen & cup or the german messkit.  The german one wouldn't need any modding done to it and has a skillet.  Same prices on ebay too.  If one was significantly more than the other that would help the decision, but it seems the like only factor in choosing a messkit/cooking pot(also would be a PSK container) is the lack of modding on one.   Hmmmmmmm

It also depends on how much storage capacity you want. The Swiss bottle is about 500-600 ml and will fit into a coat pocket.

Yeah, the larger "pot" of the german messkit is actually the same size as the canteen cup, so they serve the same purpose.  They both actually look exactly like the US canteen cup.  The only difference really is the two smaller "skillets" and the fact that all of the pieces lock together.  I would still use a strap or some other form of keeping it secured together.

I'm still up in the air on it.  Sometimes I stay in lala land longer than I should so who knows how long I'll be up here

I'm confused...this is the German Messkit, which is larger than the USGI Canteen cup.

Yeah, that's the german one I'm leaning towards.  Looks similar to the US canteen cup.  Not same size, but looks similar.  I have a US canteen cup already, but nothing to make it a container.  I can't use a US canteen because unlike the swiss canteen, the bottom of the US one is tapered, so it wont work.  But since the german messkit is larger and doesn't need to be modded(plus the cute little skillets), that's probably what I'm going to get.

BTW, right now, I have a couple of different PSks in different ypes of containers.  I have the small "SAS" altoid tin, the large "SAS" tin and a kit inside a nalgene bottle/cup.  I bought the tins from ebay and pretty much replaced everything they came.  The original stuff was not up to snuff
