Are CR123's really too expensive ?
on: July 20, 2010, 03:02:31 PM
My Novatac 120 EDC says a resounding no ! I got her in late Oct. of 09 ( thanks G.G. ) , replaced the ORIGINAL 123 on the 28th of June 2010 . I have EDC it since I recieved it , and used it for work .

FYI the original batt was a Duracell .

Around my hood I pay about Can. $2.25 for a Cr123 cell . top quality alkalines are almost as expensive .

I usually only use the lo or mid level , but have played with the hi quite a bit . Novatacs are alledged to be battery munchers , could have fooled me .

The old girl announced the depleted cell gracefully , by ramping down out of high to the mid level after a few seconds .

I think Novatacs get a bad rap when they are (frequently) compared to the very efficient Ra.  My Novatac certainly isn't as efficient as a Ra, but its efficiency is comparable to lights that were designed in the same "era" of SSC emitters.

CR123s aren't too expensive for primaries.  They are actually very affordable when  you consider the size and energy storage they offer for the price.

that's a good price. i like CR123's but if i had to run out and pick some up locally and IF i could find them i would pay $5-6 a piece for duracells. i did find some at lowes a while back two for $5 for SF's.

i don't mind using them in regulated single cell lights like an NT or Ra though. my NT is about the only light that strictly runs on primaries. mainly to rotate my stash of primaries. it's a slow process.

The CR123's are great to leave in an emergency backup light as they don't leak. Here in Missouri the best price I can get is around $9.00 for two of em. Thats kind of pricy IMO.

You know you want to Mike  :pok:

The cost of RCR123s really makes it worthwhile. Just pickup a wf-139 charger and you're all set ;)

Yes, that's very pricey.  But, they're not pricey when you consider that you can order them for ~ $1.75 apiece, shipped.

Even if you buy them in stores don't buy them from electronic dept of any store. Go to a sporting store and they usually carry surefire/streamlight/other flashlight brand which is much cheaper.
