Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

First time poster, and this feels like a question that would have been answered but I've tried searching, to no avail. I've got a recently purchased Wave (two, in fact) which have the same issue; the safety pin what keeps the plain blade from opening when the pliers are in use has a tendency to keep the blade from be used when the tool is in the fully closed position (read: when I should be able use use the knife). Common problem? Fixable by the end user, or just treat it as a warranty item?

I had the same issue with my Wave and fixed it by using a small file to remove material off  the tip of the pin, a little bit at a time, until the blade fold and unfold without rubbing or touching the pin.

Welcome aboard noah

It's not a problem that I've experienced. I'm going to assume that these weren't purchased new (correct me if I'm wrong). I would start with giving the wishbone (the forked spring) area a damn good clean, and getting some lubrication under it, to make sure there's not some gunk jammed under it that's holding it open, With the pliers only halfway deployed, the spring should not be forced over by the "ramp" at the back of the plier head. If it is still in "lock" position, I would try gently easing it back with a small screwdriver, in case something got really well jammed underneath it (don't try to do this with the pliers more than 90 degrees from the stowed position). If it's still not easing back, look for crack or signs of sprains near the base of the fork (just above the rivet that secures it to the body)

Good luck, and keep us informed. Other folks with other ideas may be along soon. Watch this space  :salute:

Both purchased new (one's a year or two older than the other) although it's much worse on one of them. On the "good" one, I can almost always open the blade, but even then I do feel the blade touch the pin on the way open. On the bad one, I generally can't open the blade at all if I've just closed the tool. Serrated blade is utterly unaffected on both tools. I'll take a closer look later and see what I can see.

No obvious issues, although I noticed that the plain blade on the bad tool is a stiffer to open than the plain on he good tool (or either serrated). Suspect I'll send it in for warranty work; s'what the warranty is for, after all.

Friend of mine found a LM in the middle of the road - said he was driving and spotted something out of the corner of his eye, stopped the car and waited as several other cars drove over whatever he had seen.

It was a Wave and was in excellent working condition despite the battering it received!

I may have to try a LM out sometime if they're as tough as they seem.

It was probably the mini driver he saw.
