It started out as usual - sitting in front of the TV, fondling some LMs I came up with the great idea of modifying one of them to fit my needs. Normally it stays like that and nothing happens (though only a few of my LMs remain in their "factory-configuration"...), but then I had quite some sparetime and decided to give it a try.
The plan was simple: Take my trusted, yet pretty battered Charge AL(X) (I replaced the second bitdriver with scissors and and a large flathead) from my time in the military and re-vamp it by putting on the scales of a normal Ti, which I find to be much more appealing optically and giving you a better grip. But of course they should fit the tactical black finish of the rest of the tool. I opted for a nice and dark olive-drab with a very scratch- and wear-resistant matte finish.
Having made those decisions I ripped the Charges apart, took the parts I needed (eventually cleaned them properly) and reassembled them.
That was the birth of my "brandnew" Charge hybrid. But only after a few days carrying around i couldn't resist the idea of getting rid of those redundant crimpers in the plier-head. Since I'm no more in the army, I don't really have any use for them. So I took my BO Fuse (yes, I do have a soft spot for black tools
) and just switched the pliers - done!
And there it finally was, my Charge AL(X)-Ti-whatever 2.0
All that was some 6 months ago, and after EDCing the Charge for that timespan I am still amazed, how well that olive-drab finish is holding up on the
scales! Nothing special, but reason enough for me to finally post some pics of it here
PS: I'm aware of the picture-quality not being the best, but I guess you'll get an impression...
