The Catman has (had?) one for sale earlier this year.  He may still have it.  I have a copy and it really is an interesting book. :)

An image of the front cover of the book [The knife and its history] should you go looking for a copy :salute:

The spine only reads "The Knife," however.

Thanks for the reminder guys but I already knew I wanted that book :D

My latest SAK's are a 1973 Soldier (Elsener Schwyz Victoria stamp) and a camo Spartan & Huntsman, both with a Royal Dutch Army laser engraving on the blade. Cool!

I just hit the "Pay Now" when I saw this....I have NEVER seen one of these for sale before, either in Korea, or in the U.S.A. (except over-priced Space Shuttle models).  This one comes from Quebec, Canada.  It was not on E-bay long, apparently just popped up when I logged on earlier this afternoon.  I will see it when I get home from Mesopotamia.....Vic Master Craftsman.....late 1970's, early 1980's.  Squared Phillips with Can Key!!

 Pics from the ad:

(Image removed from quote.)

Seller deals with Vic SAKs.  I invited him to join us, and to see our Swiss Wiki.

I just got it...err, my wife just got it back home, and showed it to me via SKYPE.  I sent the seller the following e-mail:

Quote
Just received the knife.

Question: did you send this back to Victorinox for a rebuild, or are you a modder?

Reasons:

1. Blade is marked Victorinox Swiss Made Stainless; other side is Swiss Made- 2005 and later blade shank marking.   Should have been marked Victorinox Switzerland Stainless Rostfrei on one side, with Officier Suisse and crossbow with cross on other side of blade shank.

2. Bottle opener opens/stops half-way, a post 1986 feature.  Pre-1986, it only opens/stops all the way.

3. Phillips is profiled, a pre-1984 feature.  Post 1984, it is round.

4. Scissors has groove for the spring to ride in, and has rivet instead of screw.  Post 1992 features.  Prior to that, no groove, and screw in lieu of rivet.

5. Scales has slot for a straight-pin to ride in.  Post 1995 or so feature.  Not present prior to that.

I plan on keeping it, however, IMHO, this is either a modded knife, or one built at home; or a refurbished knife.  Definately not a collectable.

I gave him a B- rating on E-bay....

I have a Master Craftsman Space Shuttle...and know what they are supposed to look like.

ADDITIONAL:

Seller just replied:

Quote
Thank you for your email.

I am very impressed with your knowledge about this knife.  I'm sorry, I have not studied my product enough and everything you mentioned is close to Chinese to me.

Yes the knife was sent to Victorinox because one scale was broken.  Please tell me the meaning of "IMHO".

Should you wish to return it because it is not an interesting collectable, I will be happy to refund your money.

Best regards,

I am going to keep it.....however, I find it odd that to replace one scale they also replaced:

- Scissors
- Large blade
- Bottle opener

Yep, that's very odd

I would have returned it by the way :)

Well, since I am in Mesopotamia, and have to rely on SKYPE with my wife, and her opinion, I am going to wait until I get home.  Wife says it looks brand new (she should know: I have bought at least 20 SAKs since I have been gone, and she knows what is good, what is bad, even she made this comment: "This is sad...I know now what is what on these things....you WILL pay for this "foolishness"  when you get home!!!") Put it this way: I did not get robbed, $42 is what I paid for it.  Hence why I took the BUY IT NOW road on E-bay.  I figured if I had of waited, then it would have gone for over $100.

Anyways, when I get home, will look it over...and might send it off for an "autopsy" so to speak....and see what REALLY happened, along with pics, too.

The dark side of modding, so to speak...LOL

I believe my 2 latest are red and black Ramblers.  I carry the red one on my keyring and it sees a lot of use.

Indeed. It might not have been what you were after but if its been assembled well then its a cheap custom SAK. I'd be very tempted to pop the scales off when you get home and check the peening.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

That is what jazzbass and myself have been disussing via e-mail.....he did surgery a few weeks ago on two "patients" of mine, and we are both interested at what innards this thing has.

Rest is not idleness,
and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day,
listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky,
