and I also have a Victorinox Electrician and Pioneer Apprentice on the way.

Interesting MOD. What is the white material that you used for the scales?

Those are just old painted scales from a broken Snife Waves, that I sanded and polished. I'm making some special scales for it though. But it's 9pm here so I had to stop. :D I had to sacrifice 3 SAKs to make this mod but it's worth it. I wanted to make something like the Wenger Deer (that one you have is just ) but no one seems to mod Wengers around here so I couldn't get a file.

EDIT: spelling

Wonderful job, and a VERY practical configuration I think Victorionox should explore.

With the paint in the recesses it should last quite a while.

a very nice, minimalist version. Knife, screw drivers, and awl.

Its a shame Victorinox and Wenger dont have a 'build your own SAK' marketing strategy, where on the website you could choose which parts you want, and they would build it for you at increased cost. They could have a list of all the mods people have asked for on their site, and you could browse through those to see if someone has already requested it before. They could number them, and if mroe than e.g. 50 people chose a specific mod, they could mass produce it, with a sensible name chosen by the original designer.

I believe this has been brought up before.  I totally agree but some of their more expensive models have some stuff that no one likes, and there are some combinations that are impossible with their components as they come from the factory so no one would really be happy.  I guess we have to keep chopping them up to get exactly what we want... :D

In the last knife show there was a guy at victorinox's stand doing custom SAKs with a small machine. I remember seeing that video, I think it was a post from Grant. So they might even have some interest on customizations but that's a fact they didn't explored it yet commercially. It's a good idea thought.

I believe the vid you are thinking of was actually Grant making a 125th anniversary Spartan at the Vic booth at the SHOT show.  They made a very limited amount of these(100?) and Grant was lucky enough to get to make one!

I noticed they also had a '08 Soldier with green text on the box (the one I got a little while ago doesn't have this - picture), so maybe Victorinox now is making it easier for the shops to distinguish between the colours they have in stock?

That could be... now that you mention it, they did do that with Farmers at one time, they had Red, Blue, and Black ink.  The Black ink was for the silver model, the others for their respective scale colors.  Nice way to do a quick check and get the right knives back in their boxes.

Today is my Swiss Christmas!  Some of these presents sat in a box for a very long time this year before being let loose today.  That's not the best way to treat your SAKs, but I hope they understand  ... and some of the stuff was a true nice surprise for me.

I'm happy to send this year off with two Christmas celebrations.

I want to thank my friends in Switzerland who have generously helped me all year. I'll try to hold up my end of the load better in the new year.

Thanks I did indeed; That knife is the 2003 Fribourg Edition of the Swiss Canton Series.  It's a Climber, as I believe all the Canton series knives are.

That's a neat series. To summarize for the uninitiated the Kantonmessers, also known as the Sammlermessers, are an annually produced knife featuring ornate wood handles. A different Swiss canton is done each year, and the number produced each year is limited to 100 pieces. Very nice, very collectible, and very hard to come by.   :tu:

Believe the Battles and some other commemorative knives are also listed as Sammlermesser. The half-dozen cantons that I have are marked that on the box (no mention of Kantonmesser), which is how I have them cataloged in my spreadsheet. Probably need to recatalog them to make them easier to find.  :ahhh
