Here is my collection of recent acquisitions, including Victorinox knife sharpner, nail clippers and a Wenger SI  :)

Congrats, nice purchase

Have you already tried that sharpener? If so - do you like it? Have one myself, but haven't used it yet.

Yeah I have used it a few times on some of my older Knives, the main rod part is reallly good, but I am not sure about the edge sharpener just yet as it's not got things back to factory sharpness.

Perhaps I need to put it through for longer. I am guessing that it works and It's just a technique that I will need to learn.

Hey, post arrived today !!
(Image removed from quote.)

Love the Nespresso SAK! Where did you get it? I asked two Nespresso stores and they were confused by me asking about it.

Thanks  :)

I've got the sharpener and the large sharpening rod works really well. Like you, I'm not really sure about the edge sharpener. It might do well for a quick touch up but I'm never impressed by it's sharpness.

Mactire404..... I found it in eBay... I don't know any store where you can buy it.

It's really hard to get one affordable.

Maybe someone knows a better technique? I watched the videos on the victorinox site but like you say... not that Impressed with the sharpness.

Once I said I would only buy Aloxes ...
then I found those :

Climber from around 1985
  • blade stamps give a 1974-1986 range
  • grooved corkscrew, no hook
  • 90° stop on the flat screwdriver and the sewing eye on the reamer indicate 1985+

Bijoux from somewhere around 1960:
  • blade stamps give a 1952-1970 range
  • scissors are interesting, they have the 1970's old shape BUT a "V" leaf spring that should be somewhere around 1975... (has the spring been replaced ? maybe...)
  • nickel silver shield
  • tweezers have the nickel silver head from pre-1957.

Dental flossed back springs? Check!
Resharpened blades? Check!
Scales polished up with Brasso and Pledge? Check!!
Judgemental skelington? Check...

The boys are a bit confused by the can key Phillips though!

Maybe someone knows a better technique? I watched the videos on the victorinox site but like you say... not that Impressed with the sharpness.

I don't want to derail the thread, so I'll leave it with this quick reply:
- I carry the Victorinox sharpener as a backup. It's slim and affordable and gives you a working edge.
- Alternatively I carry Fallkniven DC4 or DC3. They get a knife really sharp and can reprofile up to some extent.
- At home I use a Ruixen Pro (Chinese Edge Pro Professional) for a perfect edge.

I got a '61-'68 Fieldmaster in the mail.  Discovered it had a broken/missing portion of the liner on the backside resulting in the Philips not locking in place.   I'm planning on sending it back as I do not wish to have any damaged SAKs in El collection.  Does anyone have any interest in this before I send it back?  You can PM me if so.
