I've been waiting months for this little guy... Found it in a shop but upon buying it I noticed one of the scale was chipped. The guy said he would send it to Vic to get it repaired/replaced so I left a down-payment and waited... waited... waited...
And its finally back!

Victorinox Classic - Mother of Pearl

So... you're saying Vic repaired it? Or did they got new scales for it? May I ask* how much did the repair cost?

 :pok: :pok:

*Well, of course I may. You may also decline to answer...

Didn't see any pics or descriptions of this in the SAKWiki. You could get in touch with Huntsman to get these posted.

They custom-made a new scale (or set of scales... only one of them was chipped). The cost is around CHF 50.-
I've been told at the store that they can do it for old soldiers (1908 or 1951) with resin scales as well as for 1890 soldier's wooden scales. (although for the latter they won't use ebony but the other black wood that was used for the 1890 model). The cost is generally between 50 and 80 for these hand made scales.
Keep in mind though that you can't ask them to put on different scales than the ones the knife had... No transforming a normal bijou or Spartan into a MoP one.

I've actually mislabeled it... It's a Bijou, not a Classic. There's this pic on the wiki : http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-browse_image.php?imageId=3448
And there is a mention on the Bijou page
I don't mind one wants to add my pic to that page! I could even take a better one...

On the topic of scales:

I've got a 1950 Soldier that was used by a Swiss Soldier ;) as a hammer.

I emailed Vic, asking about repairs and they told me they had to build new scales.
Adding the cost of the other repairs, it would be around €75.
So CHF50 for new scales on a mod.1908 sounds like a standard price indeed.

These pics are great, they deserve a place in the Wiki.

This is my third Amefa. :D

This one is actually pretty nice. The bail is present and apart from the broken tip it's in very good condtion.

It kind a suprises me how often the tips are chipped or broken of on these SAKs. As if it's standard military training to break of the tip of the knife  :(

Probably because they fool around with those knives.

My father was an army medic (a long time ago) and told me that every time a fresh batch of cadets received their army knife, the same day a bunch of them ended up in the first aid post because they cut themselves when fooling around with the knives  :D

That it's probably not surprising that a lot of them have broken blade tips  :D

If you have to go to the first aid because you've broken the tip of your SAK by cutting yourself you are in a lot of trouble!

"Where is Bert?"
-In the ward probably, he chipped his knife on his ribs.
"Ah, he'll be fine then"
