This just arrived in the mail today. It's a Wenegr commissioned by Buck knives many years ago.I especially like the style of blade that Buck requested with the building of these knives. It sure is distinctive, compared to the pedestrian blades of the Wengers or even the Victorinox.

My most recent acquisition is this really cool Swiss Soldier knife issued for the Swiss Army Reconnaissance Detachment 10.

The Army Reconnaissance Detachment 10 is one of Switzerlands two special operations units, responsible for conducting counter-terrorist activities in Switzerland and abroad. They are a very small unit, over the years their size varied from 30 (in 2003, the year the unit was founded) to 91 (2011) soldiers. Currently they have 40 active soldiers.

With the unit being so small, chances of one of these SAKs popping up for sale are probably also very small. You can imagine how surprised I was to see one pop up for sale on the Dutch Marketplace website  :D

The blade is stamped 09:

Marktplaats seems to offer lots of SAKs!

Are they that more popular there?

I don't think so

I think the main reason there's more interesting stuff for sale is that the Dutch army is using SAKs since 1983, so naturally there are always some Dutch army issued SAKs for sale.

That of course doesn't explain why there was a Swiss army issued SAK for sale on the Dutch Marketplace, that was probably pure luck  :D

Lol!

I even have a marktplaats account, but not being able to use "Ideal" makes me feel vulnerable.

Congrats on the find by the way!
I'm not really interested in all those army issued SAKs myself, but I do like the large, clear logo on this one.

In my opinion there's no difference between using IDEAL for payments or making a SEPA bank transfer. IDEAL doesn't give any additional protection in the way PayPal does, it is simply paying 40 cents extra for the convenience of not having to fill in the bank account number yourself.

Since recently Marktplaats has the option of paying them, seller should then ship the item, Marktplaat holds the funds until the buyer says he received the item. But I haven't met any sellers yet that allow a buyer to use that option. Sellers just want 100% certainty about receiving the payment.

Marktplaats is based on trust, one of the parties has to make a leap of faith. Either the seller ships the item trusting the buyer to pay afterwards, or the buyer pays the seller trusting the seller will ship the item.

In all the years I used Marktplaats I got scammed only once, with buying a DAK. I paid the seller, who immediately after receiving the payment suddenly said the knife got damaged, and never got my money back. Lost about € 25 if I remember correctly.

If I used PayPal for alle the transactions I ever made on Marktplaats I think the total of PayPal fees paid would have been much more than the money I lost on that one scam.

Guess the SAK scene isn't high profile enough to attract a lot of scammers, luckily. I would never use Marktplaats for buying something like an iPhone, because when it comes to expensive electronics Marktplaats is notorious for the huge amount of scammers.

A nice week for me........top to bottom:

Earlier Outrider (screw in scissors)

Early unknown Wenger model, NIB (even has the plastic sleeve and instructions).  Closest I can come for a model is from 1963 catalog.....listed as 939 but can opener is different.  Kind of like an early Vic Champion but nail file and no long nail file.  Joins the bail crowd.

Fisherman Deluxe....not in Sakwiki but found it here on MTO.  Really like the nickel-silver shield and inlay.  I guess they also made these in blue.

That's one beautiful sak  :like:

I have to be totally honest tho... The only thing i don't like are the exposed rivets....
I never understood why so many people like those so much, that's the very thing i absolutely hated on my regular pocket knives when i was a kid, and one of the main reasons I've always lusted after sak's from a young age... Those beautiful clean and smooth red scales, and that "magnetic" cross and shield....

Anyway... I digress... Beautiful sak nevertheless  :like:
