Wenger MiniGrip Flat-Nose. I've picked up several of the needle-nose versions, but had never found a flat-nosed one until now. They were also known as the PocketGrip.

Chocolate Brown Pioneer, 2011 limited run, #33/50

Huge thanks to Tim for helping me out on this one.

For anyone who might be on the fence about getting one because of being unsure of the exact color (like I was), this picture is a very good representation IMO. It also looks absolutely stunning in sunlight.

Sweet!  Very nice!  Oh how I wish it were possible to put one of the 111 mm philips drivers into a 91 mm frame!

I would need to see a loose one. To me that would be hard to come by.

An old Victoria Huntsman. A "no issues knife". The little blade was blued from a torch. I couldn't even open the scissors. I soaked it in oil then detergent then oil then detergent. I gave up opened her up. Works nice now, but lost the shackle.

And the best part of the knife survived OK. The LNF.

On first assembly the can opener and awl have no snap. I tear it all apart. I replace the spring and awl. Ah now it works nice. The amount of money and time I have in this, I should of bought a LNF climber from Reinier. Now I look at the finished product and I screwed up the layers. The LNF should of been closer to the out side. Now it is a PITA to open. Oh well, it still works.

From a recent Ebay auction. A used red alox Cadet. It arrived today in my mailbox and needed some love to restore it to the beauty she is now. The blade would barely open and would require slight force to completely close. Same for the can opener. These two functions were seriously impeded by what appeared to be a syrup that had permeated their back-springs at that end of the knife and allowed to dry. The blade was also quite dull. No chips or chinks, just dull.

Now, after a soapy bath and a good scrubbing with an old tooth brush--followed immediately with a blow dry, a lube, and a ride on my Spyderco Sharpmaker--this little sweetheart is sharp as a razor and snaps like a baby alligator! The scales on both sides are in remarkably good shape. And, while she isn't brand new, for the price I paid for it (36 Buckeroos) I'm am very happy to introduce her to the rest of my rapidly growing Vic/Wenger Family. And, more importantly, to you good people...

Steve told me he'd already checked this out because I was interested; it's definitely a no-go.  I'm sure a tool just like it that's properly sized for a 91 mm frame would have to be made instead.  That's why I want a Cyber-compact, to get that (and other drivers) in a 91 mm frame with all the other stuff I want.  As far as I can tell there just isn't a 91 mm frame model that has a fine point phillips driver like that, other than the CT.

I've been toying with the idea of getting either a +B micro-farmer or a firesteel farmer. How's the micro?

93mm blue Alox Deluxe Tinker for me to carry for a few months before I decide if I want to sell it. After a few weeks I think it's a keeper but I'll probably build myself another just like it on my red old cross scales. It costs $160 just to get the parts together for this one. I took the time to reshape and repolish the springs for the scissors and everything works and snaps like it came from the factory.

The inline Phillips instead of the can opener is a brilliant idea.

Nothing on the back?

That is a great custom, but I'm not sure if I'd part with $160 for it.

On the other hand, the tactical folder guys routinely spend $400+ for a single bladed Chris Reeve knife...

I call that the driver layer. I didn't invent it but I do believe I perfected it. I run into unexpected Phillips screws way more than unexpected cans of food so it makes sense to me.

I do think the price is high but it's those darn blue scales and the need for 3 SAKs worth of springs that put it out of reach of a sane price. A Farmer with the scales you want would be best because that only leaves another Farmer, a Pioneer and the Swiss Champ for parts you need.

Yup, plus if you had to, the knife can open a can, or the awl...

Late 1950s Elinox Spartan is the latest. Have a 1962 Soldier en route (hopefully)

I have an old Elinox Spartan too. My grandpa had it since new. He broke the tip off of the blade, but it is still quite interesting because of its rarity. The scales are an ugly tomato red. :)

Here, you can see what I mean about the tomato red scales, since it is next to the blood red modern color:

In other news, I just pulled the trigger on a SwissBianco Yeoman. That was a pretty penny, $99 shipped. But dammit, that is The One. I don't really want to gear up for custom work just to build one knife, so I grabbed my ankles on that one.

The question is, will I be afraid to actually carry it when I do get it?

Victorinox is crazy not to mass produce this and the Scientist any more. The original ones are going for $130+. Victorinox could sell them easily for $35-40, I think. Maybe they don't want to take a bite out of SwissBianco's business?

<sigh> I guess this means I can no longer give my wife flak about a $35 bottle of face soap or a $700 purse that she spends her play money on...

That's a great mod.  I saw another Alox with Pliers a while back and they do look great.  I like the scissors pivoting on the top end as well, that has always been my preference.  I'd be interested in this mod, especially in red, black, or HA.
