Not only does it come with box and sheath, it also comes with the box that contained the box!

Nice one Glen...

Couple of Wenger goodies for me, a new in package Serrated Master with the Phillips on back for when I lose or damage one of my most carried daily knives.  Notice I said “when”, not “if”.  And a unused Pathfinder, just like those compasses..... :cheers:

Why not have a custom ammo crate built to accomodate the box that contains the box ?  :rofl:

My latest SAK...... just got it in this morning's post.......old Champion with fluted corkscrew and solid awl.
Only damage I can see is the twisted small screwdriver and obviously the broken scale.
Will make a nice carrier.

What puzzles me is that it does not have the spot for the ballpoint ?
This will not help me finding a replacement solid scale.
I hate the new light hollow flimsy scales.
If you ask me, not on a par with the rest of the knife.

anybody knows when the BP was introduced ?

According to SAAM's website, 1985.

Nice to hear from you Lisa.
As far as I know there were three variants of cellidor scales :

- The first ones were plain solid and have a tendency to buckle with age, (after all, they are the oldest),
- The middle ones (see pic below) are the most desirable, the lip all around, combined with the press fit, yelds a suction cup effect that avoids muck getting underneath, they are rock solid and can be polished a zillion times.
- The current ones make sense on a mass-production process where cutting costs of material makes sense for the company. But when you take into account the relative ruggedness of the rest of the knife, they are, if you ask me, way too flimsy !  (Urs Wyss I hope you read this  :rant:). I have seen some just buckle and lift up from the pressure of the tweezers !

No wonder there are so many custom scales around !

SAAM is right. Below is the official info from a Victorinox booklet.*
"Kugelschreiber" is the german word for ballpoint.

The SAKWiki pen page also confirms 1985  ............ Well it does now  ;)  :D
I also fixed the broken pics on the page.

@Ptisuisse - The pens never featured on the 6 or 7 layer Champions - As they came in with the SwissChamp!

Huntsman, the last of the Champions, the Champion Plus did come with a ballpoint pen... There was a time when the Champion was still being sold alongside the Swisschamp...

@ Jaya - Yep agreed - The Champion Plus was a much later model and it had the plus scales

And the Wiki does say the Champion did sell alongside the SC - which I assume to mean the original 7 layer Champion without the plus scales.

PtiSuisse's model is one of the older ones as it has the fluted cs, original fine sd, and no se in the awl

If you look closely at this document from Victorinox once more, you can date my knife quite precisely :

- the crest is made of stainless steel, the phillips screwdriver is rounded, so it was made after 1980 ;
- my knife has no chisel, no 90° stop on the bottle opener, no eye in the awl, and no provision for ballpen ;

so it was definately made between 1980 and 1984. I reckon I should call him the Orwell.

Now I am facing a dilemna : I have no solid replacement scale for the CS side,
but I DO have a replacement solid scale with provision for ballpoint.

Shame, It is almost in mint collector shelf condition. Dunno what to do  ???
And you know what ?
It was advertised at 5€ in the classifieds, and I offered the nice lady 20€ including postage just to be fair.
I do not regret it.

You know what ? these figures on the inside of your scales, respectively 85 at left, and 86 at right, could very well be the year of production.
Makes a lot of sense, probably already written in some Wiki somewhere, somebody will confirm that for sure. When I pop out my CS scale, I will look it up to help me date my knife. I am convinced it has its original scales.
