While we wait for Ivo's magnificent 7.... Here's my latest SAK, a Wenger Ranger 68 from NOS. My first 130mm, I'm really happy that I managed to find an original Wenger in this size and not a Vic version.

I'm planning to use this in the kitchen as a general purpose knife, it has a long enough and very slicey blade, a bottle opener, a corkscrew and the talon/hawkbill style can opener which I prefer over the Vic style.

The blade had a sizeable burr on the middle third of the edge, stropping wasn't enough, but just a couple of strokes on ceramic rods followed by a light strop made it scary sharp.

I was in the Pacific Northwest last weekend, and walked into a single-location outdoor store.  In the way back of the knife case, I saw a Wenger Minathor that had obviously been languishing in the knife case.  A search for the original box turned up two more in storage under the display.  As far I can tell from the Wiki, they are untouched and complete, but without the original boxes.  One has the stainless scales, one has the Classic scales and one has the Evo scales.  The Classic and Evo scales were the ones in storage, so the scales look great.  And the Stainless is in fine condition too.  Other than peeling off the price stickers, these are in as-found condition.  I did a deal for all three knives, because how could you not?  I'm not sure what they are worth, so I'm happy to be educated here by those who know more.  I'm not the world's biggest fan of the specialty Wenger line, but I've always thought the watch-specific models were cool.

Nice Wengers, SAKWoodsman!

I see the casback opening blade, but what other watch-specific tools does the Minathor have?  I'm not familiar with this model.

Thanks!

Myron

Great score! About the most interesting thing I have found at my local knife store was an NIB 2007 Fireman. They also had three used, and beat up USA and German-made old fixed blades (two Westerns and some German make with stag scales); but despite having been listed on their website as "in stock" were already sold before I could get them; I called and they'd said they'd sold some time ago. At that price, I would have practically stole them at $20.

I'm not a watch-lover, so I'm not sure how to refer to the watch tools, but most of the watch tools are a collaboration with Bergeon.  It is almost easier to say what is not a watch tool, being the main blade, bottle opener and toothpick (although they call that an oil drop tool).  Even the tweezers are unique.

Not being a watch-lover, I'll probably sell on two of the three, keeping most likely the Evo for my collection.  I tend to collect only "users" that can head out and about without fear but I'll make an exception for this unique SAK.

Not a SAK per se, but related. Preordered it back in March, the first one got lost on the way. Got another one, finally it's here. Very nice quality, and the content looks interesting too, at least at first glance.

Please let us know how it turns out. I’ve had my eye on it for this summer’s vacation.

The first third consists of a general introduction to SAK's, a small catalog of selected (mostly 111mm) models, info on accessories and maintenance.

Then come the outdoors/survival tips and projects, some of them feel a bit forced or too obviuos, but in general they're useful and/or interesting enough, a ton of info and ideas!

All in all it's a book well worth buying, good value, you get a lot for your money both in physical quality and the quality of the content, I can recommend it, I'm sure it would be a great companion on your trip.
