FYI everyone; my old MacBook pro died this morning.  Working on a replacement, but for now my iPhone is my only way to access MT.O so I won't be posting much in the mean time.

My condolences on the passing of your Mac. Hopefully you will acquire a suitable replacement soon. We'll keep the light on for you.

Cheers!

Those Swiss Cards are nice.  I've given several of them out as gifts and everybody seems to like them  :)

I like it too, but I'm having a hard time with the fact that they cost $10 more than an equivalent 58mm SAK. I think this one is going to live in my shoulder bag. I've been carrying a really thick SAK there lately, but for those times when I want to go lightweight, I can remove the big SAK and this little guy should have me covered.

What's interesting about it is that even though it is light and thin, I bet the four-way screwdriver of this can handle more torque than the fold-out nail file of a Classic, for example. We shall see. :)

I think the swisscards are awesome and I fully intend on adding one but the price point keeps stopping me, as I want other things that cost just a bit more than that.  For now it'll have to wait due to my two new toys.

I think adding one to my front pocket would be a really useful situation, especially for situations like hitting the golf course or going to a job interview. (if you do it right, those two are the same appointment!)

Well I have a few otw. A 2010 111mm to be modded. And 2 Vic's (1 mechanic and 1 84mm cadet) also a wenger cadet type. Not big on wenger but it was part of the lot. Going to be in the sale forum soon :).
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Wenger Evolution S557 came today. What a great little knife. It is not as thick as one would think, for a 6-layer SAK. It feels about the same thickness in the hand as my 4-layer Explorer, and a bit more compact overall, thanks to the shorter length.

I'm going to wear this on the belt tomorrow. I've got a short lanyard with Diamond Knot on it, and my old nylon Victorinox pouch ready to go.

Here's a pic I shot on the table at Chili's an hour ago:

Just bought two used SAKs today, hopefully they'll arrive on monday. :)
A Wenger (couldn't resize it, so I'll link it):
Pic
Good general condition, little cleaning and it will be good... :)

A Vic:
Pic
Scales are chipped off both sides, I'll be changing them to stayglow ones IF I'll be able to find a pair...
Metal parts look good, only cleaning and lubing needed...
Small collection of SAK's, (but growing rapidly. :D) not so fast at this time. :( And the most important of all: Ze Zuper Zoldier by Steve!  :ahhh

Amici,
I have a vintage Victorinox Champion on the way from Felinevets shop. This version comes with the two piece magnifying glass and not the current one piece as found on the plus and current versions of the swisschamp.

Thought I would give the Champion a little EDC try espeically since it's without the pliers as not the swisschamp.

Cheers,
Serge

Hi all, I'm back.

I'll post more about this in the Break Room.

Jeremy, yes, adding a layer to an Explorer does preclude pocket carry, but my plan was to carry it in the MaxPed double sheath on the side of my EDC bag anyway, to use primarily as a bike / out-and-about tool.  The Compact with the CT layer will be a pocket carry tool, but I also am keeping a spot in my EDC bag for it as well.

I am considering trying the mods myself.  I'm planning on ordering some pin stock from Rotokid and I'll have to crack the donor CT34 I have open anyway, so I figure I can at least consider it.

And thanks for the info on the knotting... I'll check it out.

A new black Huntsman w/Plus scales arrived this morning and I am awaiting delivery on 3 vintage SAK's that I won in eBay auctions yesterday.

Black Huntsman w/Plus Scales

Indeed, yesterday was a stellar day for me, scoring a hat-trick by going 3 for 3 in the auctions that I bid in. I won the following:

1. Vintage red Huntsman - late 70's early 80's? new in box.

2. Vintage Outdoorsman_Original - Used/like new condition w/100% serrated master blade & pruning blade.

3. Vintage red alox Farmer that was listed as a Pioneer (even a blind squirrel gets an acorn every now and then)

I was really happy with my winning bids on all 3 of these knives. The new black Huntsman that came today was purchased for a very low "Buy It Now" bid earlier in the week and came extremely fast from a known Vic seller whose name rhymes with stella. Excellent price w/free S&H. (btw, all of the pics I have posted above were shamelessly borrowed from their original owners. I am too lazy to get my own camera out today *sigh*)

I should note that the Original Outdoorsman was listed as unknown. I believe I have identified it correctly from pics in the SAK Wiki? I have also seen it elsewhere called a Vintage Ranger??? Would any of you care to name it for me if I am incorrect - Please!?!

Got this off Ebay for $8. I thought it must be a mod. I can steal the 84mm scissors from it. I don't think it is a mod.

A quick pic of a Sterling Ambassador, these show up from time to time, so they must have made a few of them.  The tools are from the 74mm line, but with the custom liners and scales this one is a bit bigger at 75.5-76mm.

Halmarks mention Myuus Norway... Maybe a Silversmith in Norway or a large company.  Also has a unique hardcase and thick leather slipcase.  Both mention what appears to be a company "Tele".  Anyone from Norway able to shed some light on this one?

currahee: That is a nice haul! You did make one mistake though, and that is going for the Huntsman instead of the Fieldmaster. ;) That's just my jealousy talking.

The Outdoorsman is great. A few good sharpenings, and you can get rid of the terrible nasty serrations. Funny they named it an outdoorsman, as the file is more of an indoor tools.

GigaHz, that is a nice catch. I need to start checking out Croatian ebay!

thanks! actually i chose the huntsman over the fieldmaster precisely because i didn't want the phillips and because i did want the corkscrew. same for the serrations on the outdoorsman. the serrations were what initially attracted me to that knife.

I am neither. I just like to have an itsy-bitsy screwdriver handy. Ya never know when your sunglasses or reading glasses might need to be adjusted. After all, isn't that why they invented the corkscrew -- to house that cute little screwdriver?

New Wenger 2012 - AP Blaze 50; still can't get that florescent orange color quite correct.

Quite similar to the concept of the Victorinox Hunter XT.

Very nice! I would be all over this if one of the blades was serrated. Colour is great, even if orange isn't really 'hi vis' in the bush here (ochre soil makes orange (and red) SAKs disappear)

Okay, here's the new Huntsman I got yesterday...

Victorinox Huntsman w/Plus Scales...

And here the new Huntsman is being welcomed into the Tribe...

That's the Huntsman in the 8 o'clock position.

The only criticism I have for the Huntsman is that Vic did not incorporate the hook/file combo on it like they did on the Compact. Had they done that this knife would be close to perfect for my EDC needs.
