Built this tonight from an Explorer and Compact. For a customer, so I’m just care-taking for a few days.

Great job.  My favorite tool set.

I have this Stag (imitation Stag) Hunter in route:

Awesome find.

I never had any use for the Cadet - it always seemed like just a Pioneer Minus to me. But lately it has been bothering me that I didn't have a complete alox family, and grabbing a Cadet was an easy way to fix that. Also, I have often found myself wishing that the Climber had a nail file instead of that small blade. I just got this guy in the mail and damnit, I'm impressed.

It's not a Pioneer Minus, it's a Deluxe Bantam.

Been busy today...finished this little mod, Yeoman WS.  :woohoo:

The normal Yeoman misses the awl (locked to the opener layer which is lost as the Yeoman uses a combo tool to save a layer). And I did not want the small flat driver that you can get with the saw as a back tool.

So I used the opener backspring for the saw, and cut off the rest end of the saw’s backspring to give tension on the opposite side (opener backspring expect 2 tools).

Had to reprofile the backspring for the saw pivot to get correct close tension, and added 0.15mm aluminum spacer for the saw’s backspring ‘rest’, and a 0.15mm washer for the saw, as the opener backspring is a little wider than the saw’s and this was the easier route as it keeps the awl’s closed ‘pocket’ in the backspring. Put the low-profile liners each side of the saw so it does not catch any liners, and best position is next to the blade layer. As a bonus, this method retains the lanyard eye, which is a bit more beefy compared to the one that comes off the Compact’s combo spacer.

Combo tool from an old Waiter, the early angled one which is flat (before they put the twist in). Aesthetically nicer imo. As the pivot area is a little different to the Compact’s Combo tool, the tool typically sits a little low with the nail nick half hidden. So I reprofiled the tool so that it points up a little more when closed, fixing this issue. Had to trim a little off the spacer to allow the backspring to push on the tool after I’d reprofiled it.

Main blade older crossbow type with thicker tang, so used the old liner without the raised pivot area. Scissors on top layer to keep the Phillips more central.

Everything snaps nicely and all nail nicks very easy to reach. Added some cool transparent red plus scales to finish the build.

I took some pics during the build of key mods needed to get this build to work. Will post these across in the mod thread when I get a chance.

Was a challenging but fun build.

A well-loved Explorer. Blades a little tired but the magnifier and Phillips are good. Will either be rebuilt with some fresh parts or become a donor...

Thanks Ivo. Can’t make my mind up of the old vs. new. Prefer the longer Phillips but I also like the wider FoV of the bigger magnifier.  :dunno:
