It's been a wait to come from overseas but it's finally here, a SAK I didn't think I would find, especially in this condition... a 1962 Soldier. The color is worn off a bit, particularly on one end but she's still a beauty. Still need to give her a bath and touch up the edge of the awl, but that's it. This will have a special place in my collection.

Thank you!

What  SAKs do you collect, if I may ask? If I remember correctly you have great collection of 74s. So Soldiers are your area of interest as well?

You're right, 74s are my primary addiction. Most days I carry an Executive with a Pioneer or Soldier, but of the two I prefer a Soldier. I tend to collect versions of my favorite SAKs to carry, so I started looking for Soldiers. First one was my daughter's BYSAK, then mine, then a few others that came in lots of 3 - 6 knives I purchased. Last year I found a 1944 Soldier, which is my dad's BYSAK. Now that I have a few I really wanted a red one, then I saw this one from the first year Victorinox issued the model 61 and I just had to have it. I think I'm happy with the Soldiers I currently have, except for my wife's BYSAK. If I come across a nice '63 for a decent price I'll grab it, but that's it.

Overall my collection is not too focused. I collect SAKs of all sizes if it's a model with an interesting tool set, a nice vintage one, or a cool discontinued model.

Thanks Echo. I had to clean what looked like 60 years worth of gunk from inside but she's all nice and shiny now.

Know what I would like to see?  One of friend ulzhan's excellent photos with his new Bladeless and his do-it-yourself Bladeless side by side so everyone can see the size difference.  If any.  Best wishes.  G

That's my fault.  It was our friend zrxoa1 who made his own bladeless Victorinox.   It was a silver alox with no blade and the can opener ground down into a screwdriver.  Best wishes.  G

Congrats to @psyjohn for his '62 Model 1961!  What a beauty.

There's no length difference with the new bladeless SAKs.

Nice pictures Myron. That gold is pretty. Any chance we could see all 3 knives face up? A well worn Alox is beautiful too.

Happily!   These are the SAKs that live in my key bowl/valet; I pick one of these to carry every day.

From L to R: custom Pioneer Solo mod, new red "companion slim", custom 84 mm Voyageur mod, custom Yeomaneer mod, new gold "companion slim" thing, and custom BYSAK Pioneer/Soldier X.

Wow.

What is your favourite, Myron?

I guess I couldn't pick just one!  The 84 mm Voyageur is nice when you're dressed a little more nicely and trying to be presentable.  But if I'm going for beers and pizza with friends at the bar, I'll grab a PX.

I'm going to try pairing a 111 mm Sentinel (solo) with the new bladeless Pioneer Companion thing.  I will let you know how it goes!

I'm really liking the new bladeless models, will definitely be picking one up......red or gold hmmm :dunno:

Here in Australia we have very strict knife carry laws so i mostly just have a rambler on me these days, with loads of other models scattered about the house
Feel I'd have a good case for carrying one of the bladeless models as i do use all the tools often. Would like to try the package opener too

During the MacGuyver challenge this past spring, I somehow acquire a few more RED celidor SAKs and one of them was a discounted COMPACT!

I had been confused by the naming conventions as well as the tool compliments and IDed my purchase as a COMPANION and was quickly corrected!  Politely of course.

Then learned the COMPANION was unique and available as a special styling, NEW YORK, PARIS and SYDNEY tribute scales.

This changed last week,  VICTORINOX, made available the COMPANION in the RED celidor.

It arrived today…

Nice one, Gordon.  Let us know what you think of the package opener.  Best wishes.  G
 :climber:

After reviewing the instructions for package opener and utilizing on three boxes, accessing the opposite previously open.   I would NOT, refer to the implement as a PACKAGE OPENER, but, as a TAPE SLICER.

And, that may be generous.  As it sliced a tad ragged through an envelope, snd reinforced tape (type with strands impregnated, two passes was the norm.   The WINGMAN’s package opener works smoother.

Now I must point out, I am a natural LEFT HANDED human!  Saying that, I am known to have difficulties using scissors too!

Also, the COMPANION is a 3 layer tool. The COMPACT is a two layer tool and only sports the CAP LIFTER/flat driver.

For now the COMPACT will remain in my Crossbody bag.
Also, the nail file is built into the back of the package hook backside implement.

I am happy I did invest into the NEW YORK style COMPANION.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!
