Oh, very cool, Zanza! I didn't know that model existed. I wonder what happens if it's owned by a woman; does it automatically become the Alumna? Or if two ore more people share it, does it become the Alumni? It's funny, I always see stickers on cars like 'University of [Insert Institution Here] Alumni', and it always makes me laugh because universities should know better than to use the plural... I've only once seen the correct 'alumnus' and 'alumna' stickers.

My wife and I graduated from the same university, so while we don’t have a sticker, in our case “alumni” would be correct.

Same here but the sticker would still be wrong if you're in the car by yourself :)

Yea, but I wouldn’t be about to change the stickers based on who is in the car at that moment.

I'm thinking the solution here is fridge magnets. Get an alumnus, alumna, and alumni, and change it based on who's currently in the car. Interestingly, alumnus originally meant 'nourished one' or 'foster child'. Semantic drift is a heck of a thing.

Haha, you know what Reinier, I miss living in NL and not actually needing a car. We were able to travel just about everywhere in Europe without a car. And when we really needed one, we just rented it for a heinously exorbitant price. But still, I'd give up my car in a second if it meant public transit like NL.

That's hilarious. At my undergrad the meal plans were a required component of the tuition; there was no option to opt out, bizarrely enough...

And Zanza, thank you for the link! I did go and search it up earlier but I appreciate you taking the time to find and send it!

We always used to have two cars. Then my wife and I both changed jobs (I had to return my company lease car) and for a short while we did not own a car at all. That was actually not a problem which surprised me at the time. Now we have one electric car that is rarely used. I commute by bicycle and my wife uses public transport. We also work from home a lot.
In a few days we need an extra car for our daughter's birthday party so I'm renting a small EV for a couple of hours. Doesn't cost much at all :tu:

I miss having a car, the freedom to just get up and go! I always had two cars, one was the family car and the other was the work transportation, the Mrs never got a license cause she never needed one, she grew up in Philly so she always took public trans, then she had me to take her wherever, but since 08 after my accident I haven’t touched a steering wheel,, finally our son got his license and a car so if we need to go anywhere like today the Mrs has an appointment and he’ll be driving, the kid played it smart and spoke with his work to always have mondays off so the Mrs could make any of our appointments on a Monday that way we always knew we would have trans, but everything else is done from home, even grocery shopping, sucks,,

A SPARTAN with Yellow scales.  Claimed original, but without keyring, I suspect an adverting piece and scales were swapped. Scale tools to not fit properly requires me to inspect more so!🫣
Yesterday I had the opportunity to inspect the YELLOW SPARTAN.  Popped the scales off, and wow, this thing apparently spent time in a swamp or bog. The scale tool channels were packed with crud, grime and residue of some sort caked onto indents in the scales, the post rivets were discolored from being wet and not dried.

Took a good hour to soak and clean the tool and scales inside and out.

The scales snapped back into place (added lubricant to the rivet points)

New scale tools.

Almost as good as new, even the open and close snap is there.

Hey LoopCutter, what do you mean when you say the post rivets were discoloured from being wet and not dried? Are post rivets the rivets that are visible when one pops a scale off? And also, how would you go about drying them if the SAK ever gets really wet or dropped in water or something? Thanks! And what a great colour for a scale. I don't own any yellow scales but I love them all the same.

Yes, the rivets the scales mount onto.

If your tool gets wet, submerged in water, drying or putting a bowl of rice to draw the water would be an option.

If packed in mud, cow manure, packed into the bottom of a soft bottom lake, it just may make sense to remove the scales and thoroughly clean the tool. Then oil it after drying completely.

Once I removed the gunk, from underneath scales, the yellow was actually brighter.  Every nook and granny was caked with something.

I treated as hazardous waste. 🤢

'Hazardous waste' So, at least for my axes, I have a system for maintaining them whereby after use I wipe them down, then spray with WD-40 to 'wash' the axe head, then, using a microfibre cloth, I apply Ballistol all over. That process has been extremely useful for avoiding rust. I was thinking that after washing a SAK in warm water and stuff that it might make sense to spray the tools with WD-40 to get water out of the pivot and then apply a bit of mineral oil to the joint/pivot. But I've been warned against using WD-40 on SAKs. What do you think? (about using WD-40 to get water out of the pivot before applying mineral oil).

WD-40 is not a chemical I use to lubricate devices.

It is a WATER DISPLACEMENT chemical with a bonding agent to adhere where it is applied. That agent also collects dust and other items that then can gunk up the works.

The YELLOW SPARTAN’s previous owner, did not excersise good knife care.  It apparently came to me out of destiny to receive that care.

The gunk I removed was pretty much unidentifiable and as such treated with caution.

The visible steel awl looked very clean and shiny.  The liners opposite the scales and underlining surface of the scales was ugly.  Scales clean up with dawn, toothbrush and water.

The liners required more. Some emery cloth, metal polish, and then a complete bath and rinse tidied them up nice.

Writing this I think there is a possibility this was exposed to flood waters, or storm surge as it did ship from FLORIDA.   OR, it was dropped on a golf course and found many months later in the rough.

The story it could tell😉

Two arrived this afternoon!

Found them to be different.

EvoGrip 81 and an old shield SPARTAN with no scale tools.

I just purchased the timekeeper today.  Battery had worn out, but managed to change it and is working. It wad gifted to the previous owner who said that hasn't used it. I believe him. It's in mint condition.

I haven't posted here in while. I took a picture of all my this years findings.

I haven't even look up all the model names yet. There is a couple of solos and last years pioneer x LE. Then there is a big wenger, also in mint condition. Model is bigger than swiss champ and it has compass in it. 120mm wenger was also unused, but it has company logo in it. So I thought I'm going to use that one. The toolset is excellent for camping/hiking: clip point blade, saw, pliers, inline phillips and the opener layer.
