Mike, here's what an actual Yeoman looks like.

This is not a "genuine" one, in that it was made by Victorinox; I took a couple of other small Vics, a Compact and an Explorer, and tore them apart to put it together.  Still needs a little work to get it to be perfect, but it is at least a pretty close representative of what a factory original Yeoman was.
The first Noble Truth: life is suffering.  Only by accepting that fact can we transcend it.

I was at the local Target Friday night, and saw this on a peg.  It was the last one, and looked so lonely, had to take it home and add it to the family.  :)

Package calls it a Serrated Spartan, I know I've seen the configuration as the Weekender before.  The blade has the older "rostfrei" tang markings.  Anyone know if Vic had some older blades lying around and decided to use them up in this run, or perhaps just repackaged leftover Weekenders with a new name?

EDIT:  Never mind.  Did a search and found an answer.   Just thought it was odd that a new knife would have the crossbow and Rostfrei markings......

Just in; the blue American version (to go with the red European version) of the Wenger SGT Shortex-Plus capillary tube cutter for gas chromatographic chemical analysis. The gold-plated wheels contain a spring-loaded diamond glass cutter, with the magnifying glass to examine the cut. Also other tools for working on lab equipment.

Superb! Personally I especially appreciate the vintage scales, and I think there are some vintage tools in there as well, right?

Absolutely great custom work!
Yes there are some vintage tools as well. I believe it has the older flat head with bevel cut and both tools are the brushed finish :)
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Do you have a link to the explanation of the older tang stamp on a current knife?

It appears that Victorinox simply used some old stock serrated blades (thus the old tang stamps and thicker tang) on newly assembled SAKs. Everything else except the main blade appears to be new. I got one of these recently from Tim and it looks they are still available:

Ah, there you go!  My search only turned up that the Serrated Spartan is a current production model.  The serrated blade has the crossbow and cross marking on the tang too.....  So an old blade on a new SAK.  Pretty cool.  It's in my pocket as I type this, now that the pic has been taken and posted all nice and scuff free it can get to work.  ;)

Man!  I've been looking for one of those.  Great Set.

Both of these came from ebay at very nice prices. The red one came from UK ebay back when they were selling knives; I was the only bidder IIRC. The blue one came from US ebay at a low buy-it-now price. So they are out there.

The blue one is missing the removable wrench. Sent an email to WengerNA to see about getting a replacement. No answer yet, but apparently they're still affected by the aftermath of 'Sandy'

The blue one was at one time imported by Hewlitt-Packard. They are now imported by Agilent Technologies. If you really want one you can get it here - only $395.  :D

FINALLY put my Yeoman together...

I did the tool layers like the +B Yeoman.  Just seems to make more sense having the screwdriver in the middle and the scissors on the edge. IMO they are both easier to use that way around.

I see there are some Spartans listed on Ebay for about $20 w/free shipping.  I dont know if that is a good deal or not but like the serrated blade!

$20 is what I paid at the store, so sounds like a good deal.  It's getting a pretty good workout today at the store, the serrated blade cuts up cardboard boxes like they're nothing.  :tu:

Well, I might have missed out on getting a swisschamp from Amazon during their $20 off $50 but I did just snag a new black swisschamp from Ebay for $25 shipped.  It has a company logo but I dont care about that.  It is new and unused in box so what the heck! :)
