Hi Jim,
Kantonsmesser is a serie of Climbers with woodscales. This serie was started 1998 and since then each year (more or less) one new item is issued by Victorinox. Each knife is dedicated to one of the 26 Kantons of Switzerland. They are limited to only 100 pieces per item and intended as collector item. Untill now Victorinox has released 18 different knives of this serie.
A Kanton is comparable with a State in USA, it's only a bit smaller. ;)

Is this from the 80's? Screwdriver has a half stop and is unsharpened and unpolished. No brass liners.

Kantonsmesser have inlaid wood handles.

Picked up mine (along with a bunch of other goodies) from a long-time SAK collector who was getting out of the hobby. Believe he had lived in Switzerland for a number of years. At the time I had never heard of the series, but thought they looked neat.

Left column: Bern, Luzern, Nidwald, Obwalden.

Right column: Schwyz, Uri, Zug, Zurich.

That's so true, it's Reinier's Soldier with his initials. ;)

Shouldn't you suppose to have the DAK instead? ::)

So are they printed or inlaid?

Both. Untill 2003 (Fribourg) the scales had an inlay. I like those very much. But since 2006 (Schaffhausen) the scales do not longer have an inlay but a print. And the blades changed from an etching to laser cut through. Which is also very nice. Unfortunately the last 2 knives have a not very filigree print. They look a bit chunky...

Hi Reinier,

I ordered the same knife a few days ago and was wondering if there's any certificate with it to proove the gold-plating? I believe the classic with 1gram gold ingot has one....

I can say with proud (as was not easy to find or cheap to buy), that I´m an owner of the complete Battle series with the display!!! Arrived today from Germany in mint conditions.  :ahhh

It was in my Christmas list from the other thread!   :climber:

Very cool! I read about it in that other thread

My latest is this gold plated Ambassador:

(Image removed from quote.)

There is some damage on the back scale but other than that it's great. And it came with a Mountaineer, a Rally and a Classic (all virtually unused) at a very very very good price. A steal 8)

That printed version doesn't look near as nice as the inlaid ones. Are those your Kantonsmesser in the link you gave above? If so, a great looking collection!  :tu:
