Something interesting I came across while browsing the web; a pair of limited edition Vic Spartans from India.

 Walthers are very rare and it looks you got a NIB one, worn out box or not. Great find!

Enjoy the Explorer, especially the magnifying glass :tu:  I still have some fun with mine ;)  The Explorer is pretty well equipped with some good EDC implements.

That magnifying glass is amazing if you use it like a loupe, holding it up near your eye.  It's like a microscope if you use it that way.

I miss my lost Scientist more and more every day...

It is awesome, works really well. Got lucky and picked off ebay, it has the grooved corkscrew so i guess it's before 1994, if i have my research right.

Do either of you know how it compares with the current Explorer's mag glass?  I've heard there may be a difference, but am not sure.

I grabbed a NIB Scientist from a local old-school hardware store.
I asked the seller if he had old type packaging SAK, and to my amazement he had quite a lot of old stock SAK's lying around. The Scientist was the first he showed me, and I had to restrain myself not to get too excited :woohoo:
He also had the corkscrew Mechanic, a Golfer with divot tool, the 125th anniversary Cybertool, loads of swiss champs, Spartans and other more common models. Unfortunately no old stock alox. I grabbed the Scientist, but I will be back for more soon :D
It's a pre 1991 Scientist with fluted corkscrew and no pin.
What should I get next (funds permitting)?

That must be an awesome experience to walk into a place like that.  None of my local stores here in Florida seem to even carry Victorinox except for Target and that's all new shrinkwrapped models.

Let us know what else you wind up with  :D

The only store I have seen that carries new old stock was an Ace hardware in Texas.  The reason they still have them all is their pricing.  Even their newer stuff was ridiculous.  Like, $45 for a new spartan, $150 for a swisschamp and so on.

Overpriced items bug the hell out of me.

This may be a bit off topic but, does anyone know how to age a SAK? I have a Vic Climber and Swiss Champ and I think I bought them in the early to mid 90s but I can't recall  If you may know please PM me so we won't bog this down with non-thread related chatter

:b2t:

Marcel, I think that the 125th Annie Cybertool or Swiss Champ would do you good :tu:

There are various hints for the age like the look of tools, the tools, tang stamps etc.

Post a picture showing the  tools and the tang stamp and you should get an answer from the resident experts.

SakWiki is also helpfull.

The store I got into has this typical retail prices, but the Scientist must have been there for more than 20 years, without getting a lot more expensive. I paid euro 23,50, which is almost $30. But: but I've been there very often the last year and I've bought some uncommon stuff from him lately. Otherwise I doubt he would have shown me all the goodies I saw today. The Mechanic with corkscrew is what I'm aiming for next (at 29,95 euro). I'd love to have the Cybertool 34 125th anniversary, but that too rich for my blood at euro 89,-

But: he had another scientist and I'm going to grab that first thing tomorrow morning :D

I can date most Victorinox SAKs to within a couple years. I need pictures, not descriptions. Feel free to PM me if you like with pics.

Wenger Evo S17, won from a give-away by the awesome Enki_ck.

VERY nice little knife.

Okay... so my first SAK was a Tinker, donated by Jersey Devil. My first 58mm was a Rambler given to me by Heinz Doofenschmirtz (sp?), and now my first Wenger was from a give-away by Enki_ck. I like these boards. I like them a lot. You guys are awesome, and I feel really fortunate to know such a generous group of folks.

(It should be noted that I also have a 93mm Farmer and 111mm OHO Trekker, that I purchased, now that you all have turned me into a SAK-aholic)
