Scored a Victorinox Huntsman today for $12 at a secondhand shop. It has minor damage to one of the scales, probably from being dropped, but all the tools look near-perfect.

I live in a small Asian country that has a few Vic shops/vendors. Prices are abut high and the official shops are more interested in moving the higher ticket luggage and other items, in addition the sak models on display are of the more recent vintage, but I did convince the clerk to check the drawer o saks for a soldier. Lo and behold there was a 2007 model at 2007 prices!

She checked the warehouse inventory and long story short, I now have three Nib 07 soldiers!

Picked up a 2010 Soldier on the bay for a pretty good price; it was marked as a Trekker.

I notice it has a bail instead of a lanyard ring. Is this an older SAK?

We may want also to notice the following differences from current 91 mm SAKs: grooved corkscrew, clip point small blade, "+Pat" stamp on the can opener, scissors with screw, no sewing hole on the reamer/awl, pre 2005 stamps on the main blade tang, full thickness main blade tang, no hook on the back, much nicer finish for the backsprings and the liners visible esp. on the back photo and there may be a few others as well. So yes, to me this looks to be an older SAK, how old exactly maybe others can say.

I only wonder if Vic repair used older style solid (mean: filled through) Cellidor scales or the current style, hollow. Does not matter much anyway if they are a perfect fit as it appears to be the case.

A very nice SAK for sure!

Yes - it was made sometime between 1963 and 1968. Closer to the 1963 side of things judging by the tang stamp. The only thing that looks unoriginal is the wishbone style scissor spring. A knife of this vintage should have a black single leaf spring.

Victorinox did a great job - the knife looks fantastic.

I got myself another NIB Scientist and a NIB Mechanic with corkscrew instead of the philips driver, both at the store I wrote about yesterday. I nearly took the Climber Deluxe but  decided against it. Boy I wish I had some more money to spend, otherwise I would have grabbed that NIB Super Timer, Golfer, a bunch of lumberjacks and the 125th anniversary Cybertool.
These aren't cheap knives, as the store sells at typical retail prices, but just the fact that they are just there, old stock, new, mostly discontinued models, that's so cool! I'm hooked :D

My latest SAK, or at least one that I got recently at the same time as a couple of others, and this is the one I have carried the most.

I just recently took in an '85 Soldier, pre-85 Spartan (grooved corkscrew, no toothpick/tweezer slots), a black Classic SD and a 2010 new Soldier, all mint in boxes. Pretty good scores IMHO.
