Beauty!!

Mike if you are registred on SAKwiki, how about uploading that great picture to the Vic 111mm gallery?  If you would rather I uploaded it for you, just let me know.

I wasn't able to upload it so that would be cool if you can do it for me. Thanks!

Well my first SAK came into my possession unexpectedly today.   I was at the local hardware store getting a brush to apply finish to my latest woodworking project today.  While standing at the register to pay I noticed a display of Victorinox knives and wandered over to take a look.  I've been hoping to pick up a bargain priced, used SAK so that I could try my hand at  making wooden scales.  These were new and priced at full retail price, so  drooled for a few minutes, but as I turned to walk back to the register, something caught grabbed my attention.

Could that price tag be correct?  I looked more closely thinking that maybe its was not a real Vic.  It was a Vic display and all of the knives fit into their molded spots.  This one had the Vic name on the main blade.

I called the clerk over and asked him if the price was correct.  He looked at the tag and blinked.  He checked the price list and shrugged "The price tag is what I have to go by", he said.  I offered to pass up the purchase if the price tag was in error.  He said that he had to use the price on the tag no mater what the price list said.

My lucky day.  A new Vic Adventurer went home with me for only $12.95.

Now its time to look for information on making wooden SAK scales.

Amici,
This just arrived this morning, a Wenger Rangergrip 78 and I have to say is pretty impressive, the overall weight is not too bad, and the rubber inserts make for a very comfortable hand friendly grip.

Question, where can I find these in Yellow?

I know back in 2010, SOSAK did an article about the new Wenger Rangers produced with yellow scales, and mentioned the 78 in particular with the preferred phillips over the Patagonia model that came with the standard corkscrew, but so far,  I cannot seem to find them anywhere.

Recently, a knife vendor responded to my request for a Rangergrip 78 in yellow with the reply that they had never heard of such a thing and claimed to have even checked with Wenger directly.

Cheers,
Serge

Do you mean RangerGrip in Yellow-Black (Have a look: http://www.svetnozov.sk/product/wenger-rangergrip-179822-patagonian-344/)? It is Patagonian Race Expedition model (this fact is pressed into rubber part of scale) and it is corkscrew equipped.

Thank you all for invitation

Nice work mate , I must find out the best way to make the grooves in wooden scales for the tooth pick & tweezers  .
What is the best method to stop the slots from clogging up with glue when you glue them on

To: MultiMat  :salute:

The grooves have been made via grinding disc for metal (equipped into Dremel) - this one has "smooth" trace at the process and it is simple to control all the process.

The "slow" epoxide resin; Bison brand (Dutch production http://www.belickova.sk/katalog/action/productdetail/oc/181/product/bison-epoxy-universal-24-ml.xhtml) has been used. This ahdessive seems to be relatively dense so does not tend to pour (of course, there are better ones as well). The main volume of adhesive has been placed to rivet holes, another surfaces have been lay on very decency.
But - you are right - it is a lottery  ;)

Yep getting the clamping pressure just right is a bit of a challenge I reckon

I have one of these & it worked well the first time I used it to apply scales

Quite a small but handy size I might get a second one
