I'm glad you finally got a Wenger. I think it's kinda funny that the Wenger scissor spring is supposed to not be able to break like a vic one can, but it came broken. I hope it works now. The only real vic feature I miss on Wengers is the hook. I just feel like I miss the hook even though it is not very used.

Yeah I know right?  Although at least I was able to fix it, but that's still not the point.  Also, since I ordered it through Amazon, I wouldn't be surprised if it could have been a slightly used one that was returned.  I think that's happened before

One other thing I have noticed now that I've been tinkering with it some more:  the springs seem slightly weaker or not at tight as a Vic's.  Maybe it's just this particular possibly used one I received, or maybe that's how they compare in general?

I'm glad you're enjoying your new Wenger!  :D   I hope you're finding that you just can't have too many SAKs in the rotation - the more the better!

Thanks man :salute:  I think I am finding that out, despite proclaiming that once I had my custom SAKs, I would not buy anymore SAKs.  Oh well, the bug is persistent and relentless >:D

Wenger knives springs are not as strong of a snap as vic ones

Yeah, I noticed the snap wasn't as solid or loud as a Vic, and I thought I had read that on here before, so I wasn't surprised.  Really not a big deal though as I still love it.  I'm surprised that Vic has never created a model with the same tool loadout.  I suppose the Compact is close in with a few small differences.  The Super Tinker is really close with the only real difference being the small blade instead of nailfile.

brilliant fix!!! I'm sure that Wenger will be looking for it's relatives and force you to permanently invite them into your home. Oh, as for the blade, be careful. I have cut myself with those wenger blades quite badly that I couldn't hold anything with my right hand for 2 weeks.

That tiny blade cuts like lightning (why the comparison, I dunno... couldn't think of anything cooler)

I got in a massive load of BO parts today and this is the first test build.  This is part of a project to use up all the new opener and blade layers I have into something more exciting, as BO'd tinkers and spartans.

The contrast of the black tools and springs is actually quite striking against fresh red scales.  I would have loved to have the liners done in black or red, but it just wasnt possible, and remaking the liners in a higher end alloy would just drive up the cost, and I was wanting to sell off a few of these tinkers and spartans at reasonable costs.

Ive got enough to build a couple of tinkers and spartans, and here is a tinker first up.  The springs, tools and keyring were BO'd.  Liners are stock, and scales and T&T are brand new.

Cheers :D

I've got two Parachutists on the way to go in the glove compartments of my wife and my vehicles.  Wife has been bugging me to get her some sort of rescue cutter to keep in her car console ever since we got her the new car in May.
Yes that's true, but I've been out to sea a long time.

I may have to do that.  Her EDC is a CRKT Ashworth Turtle (she has a thing for turtles), and the KERT would make a good combo with that.

So I went ahead and filed the EvoGrip's awl to a sharper point as I wanted it to be pointy since it's an awl ;)  I apologize for the pics as I don't think they quite capture the difference, but they're the best I could do.

Great idea!   from the pics it appears to be sharp.  That's one thing I kinda demand from an awl is a cutting edge.

Yeah, I still prefer the Vic Alox awl as it can ream a hole out as well.  The Wenger awl can only punch a hole.  I made the point sharper, but it still doesn't have the sharp edge down the length of it.

That looks incredible.

My newest is a 93mm Solo, it's really neat, only thing that would make it cooler is if it had a date-marked blade!

My latest is the Wenger EvoGrip16 :mail:

My initial impression is that I love it :D  I love the red/black scales (although they are a bit thicker than I would have liked, which makes the whole SAK thicker than I would think it needs to be), and it has a great pocketable size (despite the just mentioned scale thickness).

Since the wenger scales "contain" the outer liner within them, the relative comparisons between a Wenger and a Vic show thet the scales of the Wenger, compared to the thickness of the Vic scales plus the outer liner...........there's hardly any difference between them. Just a little more thickness to the Wenger scales where the islands are between the long and short portions, but really, very little difference in general.
Granted, the Wenger scales look thicker, there is more plastic to them, but the overall knife thickness is very similar.
