I have this user in route:

Nice Duchess in not too bad condition.

Thank you, I've wanted one since I first saw them and since they're so hard to find I decided to go for the well-loved one and give it some more love.
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

Got me a Mountaineer today in the  :mail: - As soon as I saw this I just had to get one

This knife is sick! Where can I get one?
I got it from this site http://www.swisstool.co.uk/st/product.php?productid=16996&cat=316&page=1 same place as the union jack scales I have. This looks sooo nice and even better in the hand.

Ok so no different than any other knife I have bought this year - I was worried I missed a design change while I've been away :)

Old file and scissors vrs new. New always on the right.

SS metal file, works much better.

Rivet instead of screw on the pivot on the new one.

And groove for the spring to ride in.

I never noticed that groove.  Very sweet piece of design.  Thanks for pointing that out.

Brass is cheap, and easy to work with.. but nothing beats Titanium.  Everytime I work with it, I curse alot as its hard to cut and sand, but when I'm done, I'm always very proud and happy with the effort and end result.  :D

This little guy was born today in the SAK lab, and will have 3 more siblings later on this week.  :D

Oh I have an anodizer coming next month so I can start offering these in colors next!  :tu:

I recently acquired this pre-1985 Explorer. It has the older style magnifier, no hook on the back, no hole in the awl, and the scissors have the screw as the pivot instead of the new pin. Although the scales have a good bit of wear to them, the tools look unused and mint. It was probably a junk-drawer knife that got knocked around over the years in storage while seeing very little use if any at all. The tweezers were a little grimy so they got replaced along with the toothpick. All the tools have strong snap, and very nice walk n' talk.

I really like the clean look of the liners on the backside of the older SAKs. My hookless Deluxe Tinker, and my hookless Climber both have nice looking liners as well. I could be wrong, but it seems like the newer SAK liners are not as polished or clean looking as the older SAK liners.

That is extremely  -worthy!  :D  A perfect example of history in a 91mm package. From the pics, it appears to be in excellent condition. What are your plans for it? EDC, collect etc?

Very nice SAK  :tu:

That is correct, the newer liners ones are no longer nicely finished as the older ones used to be. Old and new Craftsman comparo:

Not just the liners but also the backs of the springs look nicer to me on the older SAKs.

Thanks!  :tu:

I've been carrying it in my right front pocket hanging from a nylon keychain fob, but lately I've been thinking about shelving it. As time goes on, this one will definitely reach vintage status. I especially like it because it's just like the one I had when I was a kid. I'll probably pick up a newer Explorer to edc in any case.

I also think the backsprings look more polished as well. Makes for an overall cleaner look. I'm not sure why Victorinox down-graded in this aspect. It's probably because they now use a cheaper metal in order to cut production costs, or maybe they just cut out the polishing part of the finishing process all together.

These older and more polished looking backsprings and liners are making me reconsider selling off my nos Deluxe Tinker (I just wish it was a Deluxe Climber instead).
