not really a SAK, but (I believe) one of the better SAK-a-likes.

'01 Soldier.  Was thrilled I won at 22USD!!  The year of my youngest.  Now all I need is a '75 to have all of my household birthyears.

I thought that looked familiar!

Couple of recent finds - Alox Pioneer and XLT.

Pioneer has seen some use - couple of dings on the blades - but still a lovely little knife.

Judging from other posts I guess the Alox is a soldier (it has 93 stamped on blade) - I think?!

That is indeed a Victorinox Soldier rather than a Pioneer. :tu:

Pioneer Pruner, from a visit to the dealer's today.

I thought that the secondary blade made a good addition to the main one, for opening clam-shells, cutting mushrooms etc. Many times the secondary blades add very little.
Here you get the single layer thickness, the large 93mm blade and a useful extra blade.

Here is a thickness comparison picture with a Farmer (3 layers) and a pioneer (2 layers).

Thanks!
Any idea how to make them grow to 91mm? I don't like 84mm SAKs :(

Hey Spatha! I've just been wondering about buying exactly that orange Wenger... how does it feel? I read something about one-blade Rangers feeling a bit odd, balance wise, cos of the lightweight scales. Is that true?

I think it handles fine.   :tu:  This demonstration of its centre of mass ought to help convince you.  As you can see, it balances well in the hand and does not feel blade heavy.

The scales are pretty chunky so it fits very comfortably in my hand.  The liner lock probably helps to add a tiny bit of weight as well.  The whole SAK feels fairly light in the hand.  It is a lightweight at 97g (3.42oz in American money).   ;)

This one pale's a little in the company of the 1908, but I'm far from horrified by the quality of the Aitor sak-a-like I picked up for $10.

The blades are not very sharp, but I will try getting an edge on them later. The other tools are not too bad, the drivers have reasonabley sharp edges, not overtumbled like the cr@p chinese knives. the LNF has decent teeth and the scissors cut paper quite well. The saw feels a little dull, but it does cut pine okay. A light stoning along the sides of the teeth would improve it greatly.
Interestingly the knife is 91mm size, but the scales are like Wenger in that they wrap around the edge of the slightly smaller outer liners. Also the T&T are Wenger style with the ends wrapping around the outside liners toward the middle of the knife.

Overall it feels far closer to Swiss quality than any other "Swiss Army Style" knife I have handled.
I would actually carry this and feel I could rely on it.

and where else am I going to get something with LNF and Bail at this price?

This is the eBay pic, shows the LNF but (as usual) the seller has overlooked the Saw.

My newest is a NOS black SwissChamp with the older style grey magnifier. I got a good deal on two of them, and NutSAK is now the lucky owner of the second one  :D

These black SwissChamps are simply awesome.
