Difference between a Sportsman and Sportsman II?
on: August 05, 2010, 03:54:39 PM
Sorry if this is an easily answered question, but I could just not find it.  What is the difference between a Sportsman and Sportsman II?  Thanks in advance!!

Sportsman II has nylon scales.  Nothing else :)
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Thank you for your response!  What would be the advantage/disadvantage of the nylon scales versus the standard scales?  Strength?

Many don't like the look of the nylon scales, though from a practical standpoint they are tougher and provide better grip.  Horses for courses :)

I'm not sure I've ever seen a red nylon scaled swiss army knife.  Is it similar to the one hand Trekker as far as texture and appearance?

Yep - most 111mm knives use the nylon scales AFAIK.

I'm starting to like them, the scales are really tough, the only problem with them is the logo really wears of quick,if Vic could change that I'll be converted.
Rest is not idleness,
and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day,
listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky,
is by no means a waste of time

Agreed.  I think nylon scales with the metal inlaid shield would be a great combination.

I also like the nylon scales, they have a good texture and hold up well to wear  :tu:

Thanks guys!  I just ordered a Sportsman II....I think I'll like that the scales won't scratch as easily as the normal scales.

Neil, why are all the Sportsmen II I see with cellidor scales, then?  Going into any Target or most hardware stores will show the same thing:  blister packaged Sportsmen II with cellidor scales. :/

With that said, the Sportsman is a wonderful SAK. :tu:

No idea.  The only Sportsman's I've seen with the II suffix have been the nylon ones.  Got any pics of the packaging?

I don't at the moment, but I'll be back out toward Target before long, though anyone else near a Target could do this photo hunt, too.  :pok:  :D
