Colored Alox Bantam?
on: August 10, 2010, 04:42:59 AM
Did Victorinox ever make the Alox Bantam in colors other than silver?  I love the look of the colored Alox Lumberjack's done by Swiss Bianco, but wondered if the simple Bantam was ever made in colors as well?  I think a Black or Red Bantam would be sweet.  I love the saw on my Farmers, but I wonder if the Lumberjack saw is just a tad too small to be functional.

No regular issue models however there have been the occasional custom made run for certain companies as advertisement giveaways.

This one is smooth alox with a blue shield printed on and blue company name advertisement on the back side.

Yes advertising knives is probably where to look. I recenly got an older Elinox smooth gold one that was before the combo tool so it has the caplifter.  I have not seen too many of these though, although advertising knives must have been made in fairly large numbers.

The waiter/bantam has been done in red ribbed alox.
unfortunately i don't have one but I'm sure somebody will post a picture soon.

On a side note, if you have one for sale, PM me  :D

Are you sure they made a waiter with alox?  I have never seen an alox sak with the cork screw.

It is quite confusing but the "bantam" in alox is officialy called "waiter" (no corkscrew)  :ahhh
Neil?

An early version of that "bantam" is in red alox (ribbed)

Back before the combo tool there was a knife that to the modern eye would appear to be a Bantam but with a bottle opener instead of the combi.  It was called the Waiter.

Here's a link to an old catalogue on SAKWiki.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Right I'll have to get to updating the wiki pages to reflect that, I see I've neglected to do that.

Thanks for the history lesson gents.  I didn't know there was an older waiter.  I am only familiar with the current non-alox variant.

I think the red knife in the center of this photo is a Bantam.  I acquired these (and other) advertising knives in the last century.

You're correct, it's an Advertising Bantam. :)  Very nice, by the way. ^^
