Leatherman case questions
on: September 10, 2007, 12:46:49 AM
I have the Leatherman case that came with the Wave. I know that back pocket is for the screwdriver heads card thing but what is that front 1 for & what are the two side pockets are for. It looks like you could put a stick or something in there just not sure what. I like the case I just hate that it doesn’t have a clip or snap to take it off your belt easier.

I don't have one of the cases you are talking about, but I have similar designs for SAK cases and the loop on the side is usually for a sharpening steel of some sort.

I guess now I have to start looking for a new Wave!

I have a mini mag lite (the smallest one) in the side pocket of my sheath.  It's just a little bigger diameter than a pen and it fits great.

A fully loaded LM Charge case may look something like this.

Left to Right

Jsews metal saw
Maglite Solitare
LM Bits
LM Charge ALX
Zebra telescoping pen

Must be your leather finally loosened up if you're cramming all that in there  ;)

My fully loaded Charge case looks similar, but I've got a LM bit extender in one of the side pockets.

What’s a Jsews metal saw & Zebra telescoping pen is that just a brand of pin like bic? I didn’t think a flash light would fit in there I am going to try it out.

So who sells the case with the flash light holder?

J-Sews is the guy who posted before you, aka Bob, and the saws are a set of various types of saw blades cut to fit in the pocket clip attachment on the Charge series from Leatherman.

Zebra is a pen manufacturer.

They just slide into the cutouts in the handle, and are held in place by the same locking mechanism that locks the inner tools open.  Just press the lock button and they release.  I'll take some video of it today and upload it to YouTube because it's kind of hard to picture otherwise!

I don't think so.  I don't know about the New Wave, but the old one doesn't have the slot for the pocket clip/lanyard ring so it wouldn't work.

Def is right, the saws won't work on the original Wave. Only on the New Wave, and any of the five Charge models.

I know that this off the original topic. But I've used my "J-Saw" tons of times and love it. I remember that Bob said he was going to contact LM about them. I was just wondering if they ever responded to you?

Yup they did, sometime late last year. They liked the saw, said they'd done some testing, and it worked great. Then they said that their engineers had already thought of the idea, but there were no plans yet to make the saws a regular production item.

Haven't heard anything since.  :-\

That's too bad. I've used the metal one that you sent me lots of times and it works great. I must have for anyone who owns a Charge.

I've made a few batches and sent them to folks here on the forum. Probably time to do up another set. PM me with your address and I'll get one off to you in the next week or so.

Oops! Unless you have a Surge....the saws don't work on Surges.

Seems like Leatherman would be all over this as an accessory. The lock-up is solid, the saw provides a replaceable way to cut metal, and it fits into the sheath slick as can be.

No reason I can think of that they wouldn't be making their own for sale.  ???

I agree with you there. ???  Just a thought. Maybe LM thinks that it would hurt Surge sales. The removable saw attachment on it is one of it's main selling points. If  you have a Charge with removable saws, why buy a Surge?
