There are ribbed alox versions of the SwissFlight and SwissMemory :)
You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.

The problem with calling it ribbed in this context is that many will think you mean the older style of alox not the modern style  :-\

The only US/GB variation here is that we tend to spell it chequered and in the US I believe they spell it checkered.

And what's worse is when a seller uses an old stock photograph and retains the "ribbed" description of the alox... two very distinct differences between ribbed and checked alox scales.  IMO, calling the modern scales ribbed is like calling the Mini Cooper a Mini - sure, it may be an update to the old British design, but so many differences as to where it'd be like calling an orange an apple. :/

It seams as Victorinox doesn't make this distinction. Or not always...  :)
Some months ago I bought this knife from a Vic dealer who ordered it directly from Victorinox stock in Ibach.

(Image removed from quote.)

Considering how confusing Victorinox make their naming that doesn't surprise me in the slightest :D

FWIW You'll see me often type 'horizontally ribbed' to try to indicate the early straight ribbing. I'm not sure it makes it clearer for anyone else, or if it's a good term, but now I've explained it.  Maybe 'straight ribbing' is a good term that might translate better.  Once I've had a looks at a few more maybe I'll come up with the perfect description and send it off to vic for their 'official lingo' file.
