Micra dissection
on: August 21, 2010, 04:03:26 AM
How do I dismantle the Micra? I want to get these cheesy plastic covers off the scales, clean it up and lube it up.

Err, if the plastic covers are in good shape, sell it, don't dismantle it.  You can get a new one inexpensively; the plastic-covered Micras are discontinued and some colors can fetch pretty good prices. :pok:

I did not know that, the covers themselves are alright but the tool is quite dirty...you can see what might be rust spots through the plastic. I'll get some pics up in the morning, I'm off to be for tonight.

BTW, I bought it off Catman for 6 bucks.

I just dissected my Mirca using two pairs long nose pliers. Use the cheap China made pliers. Their plier jaws has a lesser hardness than the Micra frames and the security screws. No risk of damage to the screws and you won't scratch the scales.

I still don't know why I should dismantle it. I can always put it back together, and a clean and shiny Micra will still fetch better prices than a dirty rusty one  ???

It will help quite a bit once I get these screws off! I just don't know how to without marring the screws. I will look around to see if I can get a super-cheap pair of pliers but other than that, any suggestions? What's that 1/4 inch socket you used?

Can't the plastic be removed without dissecting the Micra?

IIRC, the only way to remove the scales without removing the screws is to break them off; the screws on the plastic-scaled Micras actually have a lip that keeps the scales in place; removing the scales will cause the screws to sit more proudly than those of the annodized, painted, or regular SS Micras.
