Wave back in the rotation !
on:

I recently reaquired a Wave , been getting a lot of EDC time of late .
I find the Spirit more implement dense , and a better off duty EDC , when backed by an OH Soldier . For work where I have lots of "real" tools I'm begining to fall in love with the Wave all over again , basically due to the OH serrated blade . Handy as all get out for unpacking stuff , cutting conglomerations of e tape off fishes , pull ropes etc , etc. The Spirit will do all this too , but nowhere near as handy as the wave . I also find the master blade great for splinter removal etc . The other implements rarely if ever get used .
On the job I back up my Wave with a Vic. Electrician Plus , this gives me the awl , saw , and devine little stripping blade . In addition to which i get a more functional cap lifter/90 degree screwdriver/light duty pry tool . ( the Leatherman opener is OK for cans , but poor on beer bottles ) .
I still believe in the all around overall superiority of the Spirit , but when already tooled up the Wave is just light years faster .
I'm begining to miss my Charges ( groovy Ti textured scales ) , and not for the Uber steel blades .

My two complaints on the Spirit are:
1. Most of the time, I have one hand on what I want to cut and don't want to let go. Hence OHO is a big plus.
and
2. The mirror like finish on the Spirit is slick as snot when I have oil or grease on my hands.

Well said , I have wanted to beadblast my Spirit for a long time . OHO is a nice feature , when I EDC a Spirit , I also pack an OH Soldier . I agree with ya on both counts . A black oxide Spirit S might be a way round the slippery thing . The slippery thing is why the Charge feels better in the hand than the Wave .

And its not JUST that the Spirit is 2HO, its the fact that its a precisely-placed-thumbnail 2HO
Even on the occasions when I do have both hands available, getting the knife out isn't instinctive. The tool has to be brought forth into view, examined, the actually knife blade has to be identified, and then the thumb nail precisely guided into the nail nick for opening.
It's far too lengthy of a process when in a hurry, or when the knife is needed over and over again.
Give me a Wave or Charge any day.
The knife can be opened with eyes closed and one hand tied behind the back.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I suppose I never fell really in love my the Wave as I also have a Ti, and it's just that bit better IMO.
I hope you enjoy having it handy

Make no mistake , the Spirit will have a place in the rotation and man bag . It's really a matter of simple math , if i carry a Spirit for work , I also need to carry a OH Soldier , and an Electrician plus . When I carry the Wave , all I need to augment it with is the Electrician Plus ( for the awl , caplifter, and skinning blade .
While the weight of the OH Soldier is minimal , it is a tad bit bulky . I don't really need three saws . Now that I have re united with my Wave , I have started to remember how nice an acutely pointed blade is for some chores . As I have said before , the OH Serrated blade was always one of my Fave./most used implements .
The whole thrust of this ramble was driven home to me on monday , I was trying to catch a "Fish" being fed in from a hole drilled on an up angle into a wall consisting of brick , 4" of Styrofoam SM , an airgap , fiberglass insulation , vaporbarrier plastic , and last but not least 5/8" drywall . I could hear the fish faintly , locating was guite another matter . i was able to onehandedly dispose of relevant pieces of plastic , enlarge the hole in the drywall , get some tuck tape out of the way etc , all with the same tool , without visual reference , and with the bonus that the left hand was free to grab the fish .
The other array could have done the job , but it would have involved visual reference , and two handed opening of multiple tools . In short it would have taken much longer .
Another advantage , at least in Canuckastan , is that in a schoolboard enviroment , a multi is more likely to be seen as a tool than a knife . In truth , I have only once in twenty odd years met with an attempt to enforce a board "no weapons " policy while doing work for various boards , and it was pretty limp wristed . Basically , a maintanance foreman , and a building operator ( both sporting Waves ) told me to ignore the offending idiot . It's nevetheless a factor .
