Batteries Inside Batteries?
on: August 26, 2010, 04:10:35 PM
Has anyone ever taken apart a 9v battery to get the AAAA batteries inside? I could use those AAAA batteries for my Wenger Spotlight! Any tips?

I didn't realize there was anything inside a 9v battery except acid and nasty messes.....

I've heard not all 9V's will work, most have a bunch of the AAAA's but some (cheap off-brands I believe) will just be filled with acid/goop.

I've done just that to get cells to power a Wenger Laser. So yes, it'll work :)
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I've opened 9V batteries to use the battery chassis to make a flashlight

Risk what? If you've ever seen the inside of a alkaline battery you know it's not dangerous. Heck we even open3ed those up in school

Just something about ripping opening a perfectly good PP3 battery to get at some 'free batteries' doesn't appeal to me  :-\

I definitely wouldn't use them in any expensive gear I had either  :ahhh

Eneloops all the way  :tu:

To get AAAA I'll chance it. The only thing I need them for is my Wenger. Strange size batteries are like $2 for just one.

Don't know about "acid/goop" but on one cheap one I tried it was made up of a bunch of flat cells stacked one on top of the other.  Absolutely no use whatsoever if what you need is some AAAA. ::)  :D

It depends on the brand; some 9V will contain AAAA, while some AA (or is it AAA?) contain button cells.  It's screwy. XD

I saw a video of it being done with an Energizer, so I imagine if stick with that you should be fine.

For those in the UK, Wilkinsons own brand are made from AAAAs.  Or at least they were last time I ripped one open.

It depends on the brand; some 9V will contain AAAA, while some AA (or is it AAA?) contain button cells.  It's screwy. XD

The button cells in AA/AAA is a myth perpetuated by fake vids on YouTube.  But just to muddy the waters further some 12V barrel batteries are indeed made from button cells.

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Hmm, did not know that; it's hard to tell what is, in fact, truth on the net. :/

Yeah, AAs are cells not batteries.  A battery is a group of cells tied together, as in the case of the AAAA cells in the 9V battery.

Another myth that is perpetuated is the large 6 or 12 volt batteries that contain many AA cells.
