I'm the same as you, unless i'm off out with the family to some place a bit too far to cycle.

My boots, Gelert something or others, had them for about 5yrs and they've been brilliant but are just starting to leak so i'll be looking for some new ones soon.

Bike, Land Rover Tahora.

Just a plain old hillbilly from southern Uhia ;D My family roots in America, were in the Blue Ridge of Virginia and North Carolina from just before the Am. Rev. It's been said that a lot of English from the 17th and 18th cent was somehow preserved in Appalachia.
Working on getting a decent camera for some decent pics of my bikes...might be nice to have for myself, just in case I have another spill, and nothing's left of a bike but memories. :-[

I used to use my mountain bike to go everywhere.  Now I just use my car.  It is definately more expensive but faster. :)

Cycling is enjoying a real resurgence of interest in the UK as a lot of people are simply being priced of the road.

More and more people over here are using there cars less and less, because (at least over here) cars really don't work!

Over here... everyone seems to be buying motorcycles.  I think I saw more cycles this year than I've ever seen.

Apart from the fun factor, I think it's a combination of the fact that motorcycles are for the most part cheaper to run than cars, and the fact that for the most part there unaffected by traffic jams :)

In these parts, motorcycles are part of the"follow the current trend" before MC's it was SUVs that everybody just had to be seen in.ATVs are another thing that have widespread popularity here, almost daily you'll hear of a fatality aboard an ATV,or a theft ring that concentrates on ATVs.

That's just Mother Nature keeping the balance.  If it weren't for folks killing themselves on motorcycles, they'd be killing themselves on whatever else was trendy.

Look at how many people are killed on snowmobiles every year after falling through thin ice.  Every year there are warnings about it, yet every year more folks are killed that way.

Mother Nature is not to be messed with!

Within the past year the West Virginia legislature was debating legislation mandating helmets for ATV riders, and the hue and cry was tremendous, mostly citing infringement on personal freedom.Frankly,if the opponents had just come out and said they were out to prove Darwin was right, their arguments would have more credibility.

The number of ATV deaths has increased in the Ohio valley exponentially in the past year.  People just do not get the fact that all the body armor and helmets do not prevent deaths due to stability.  My co-worker and friend is on a long LOA because he wrecked his dirtbike practicing for a race.  He overshot his jump by some 70 feet.  He had the right pitch for the the landing unfortunately he landed on flat ground instead of downslope.  He amazingly landed the jump.  The force of the landing compression-fractured 5 of his vertabrae.  He did not know that he was hurt until he could not move his legs to shift and the he fell off the bike.  He now has like 20+ pieces of metal in his spine. He can walk but not race anymore.

They aren't unstable- the riders are! :P  Seriously, some folks just don't understand the power in some of these machines.  My parents have two- an Arctic cat with a 300cc engine, and a Honda with a 250.  The Honda is two wheel drive only, and has a much higher power to weight ratio than the Cat.  Since it doesn't have the 4wd system that the Cat does, it's about half the weight, and if you aren't careful with the throttle on it, it can flip easily.  My brother found that out the hard way and ended up rolling down the hill with it.  I don't think that's instability so much as inexperience.  People think it's got four wheels, it's like a car...  not even close!

What I meant was, you just can't corner them that well or fast as the outside wheel's lift really easily, at least that's the case with my 11stone hulking physique  ;D
