Wenger unknown?
on: August 29, 2010, 05:22:31 PM
Hi

How are you people!

Got this 85mm Wenger with sailship on the handle, may have overlooked this someplace so far no info. The ship is engraved in silver color. Not so easy to see on the picture but rather detailed on the ropes. Well the blade is with the smaller nailnick and shape that looks like a 70s blade.
tweezers only no toothpick, old type saw and fish scaler, it has a uni wrench and a phillips, was mentioned some time ago that the wrench and this Phillips was introduced in 1980 or so. I will have to take some more pictures if needed of this SAK and no small blade it has a nailfile instead. :)

Any info seeking ???was hoping that some here know or has this too, besides that its not sea worthy yet.

Hi

Yes this must be it, thanks! Mine must be older since the fish scaler has no notch and the flat screwdriver with cap opener and stripper do not have the patent lock system. Also the metalfile has a nailnick.

Correct about it being a Windjammer or Seafarer depending upon which market you choose(European markets differed from North American markets).

The older Wenger fish tools do not have the notch(Line Guide) and may not even have the ruler markings.

Hi

Thank you again Kazuya, it turns out you are very correct, i got a reply from Wenger and they replyed with info:

"This knife was ment for sailors and it belonged to the old range "Sports" number 1 43 05
Also that the knife is from 1984",

I guessed 1980 so happy with that..

I'm actually kinda surprised they knew that much about the knife, seeing as most of their records had been destroyed in the late eighties by a factory fire. :/

Even better than that would be an offsite information cache, of which the location had gone up with the fire... hence why no one remembered, lol.  Alas, we can dream. ._.

I always wondered about this. Since records were destroyed but People were not then why don't some of them remember what kind of knives they built a couple of decades ago. Especially those old timers that are never let go, I am sure they would have loads of knowledge about old Wenger products.
