Marble Arch Caves - *Warning - Pic Heavy*
on: August 30, 2010, 04:48:38 PM
A few weeks we all went to the Marble Arch Caves. I took a load of pics so I stuck the best ones up, hopefully you'll enjoy them :D

The Marble Arch Caves one of Europe's finest showcaves allowing visitors to explore a fascinating, natural underworld of rivers, waterfalls, winding passages and lofty chambers. Guides conduct tours past a bewildering variety of cave formations – stalactites glisten above stream ways and chambers while fragile mineral veils and cascades of creamy calcite coat walls and spread as shimmering terraces across rock strewn floors. Spectacular walkways allow easy access while powerful lighting reveals the stunning beauty and grandeur of the caves. Electrically powered boats glide through huge caverns carrying visitors along a subterranean river.

There is no marble in these caves, it just happened to be the name of the area. They close in the winter because of the bad weather and the caves effectively flood  :o Overall it was an interesting and fun trip. The kids enjoyed it as well, the only downside it that it is about a 90 minute drive from home  :-\ Half on motorway the other half not  :-\

Well I had to get one multitool shot  :D

Apparently these bones found within the last 30 years. It was discovered to be the skeleton of a bear  :ahhh :ahhh Ireland doesn't have bears  :ahhh :ahhh

Looks fantastic Dan. :tu:  I love visiting caves that are big enough to stand up and move around in.  Proper caving on the other hand appeals to me less.  I suspect I just don't like the idea that I may get wedged in. :-\  I should really give it a go sometime though.

The only place I have been that was remotely similar is Wookie Hole caves.... I find them all to be a subtle combination or fascinating and terrifying  :ahhh

Great shots Dan, thank you. But perhaps *Warning - Pic Heavy* might be a good idea on this thread! :D
