While I prefer a PE in a dedicated folder, I think in a multi CE makes a lot of sense. Multis are all about trading ultimate effectiveness for more versatility and in that mind set a CE fits right in. Would I prefer a PE? Sure, but I don't object to a CE either since it's at least logical in a multi, as opposed to on a dedicated where it just results in two half-assed blades. A multi is already a large collection of half-assed tools anyway lol.

Speaking of Multitasker, I've been playing with a few of Shane's new concepts for the past week or so. One of them is a model with a knife blade mounted outside of the plier channel, which of course allows the blade to be much larger.

Teaser pic, compared to a standard Generation II model:

Looks great! Is that proto going to be a bit more EDC?  Or rifle specific as well  :(

Bob,

what do the pliers on that proto look like?
my only complaint would be the pliers do not open wide.

This proto is just an expiremental platform for the larger, outboard-mounted knife blade. The pliers and such are standard Generation II. :salute:

As regards plier opening/width, I agree with you Scrappy. I'd like to see a bit more opening width myself. But then again, I'd also ask for a large-tooth, large gripping area, just like all other multitool plier jaws have. I guess the Multitasker folks are thinking that with no provision in these jaws to grab onto large diameter objects, the pliers don't need to open as wide...?

Big blade looks awesome, and it might help sales, but if one was really honest I think they would find the smaller blade is more than adequate, so I'd have to go for the reduced weight and cost of the small blade. ....but.... I know that market screams for large blades with LM making such a big deal out of it.

I thought I would bring this to the top again ans show some comparison shots. The multitasker is shorter when closed than the super tool, core, swiss tool or freehand BUT the screw driver and pliers are longer. It has the longest driver I am aware of and the bits are formed very well. You can see here the plier is also longer than the competition. better reach, all in a smaller handle. The knife is shorter but very usable.

Thanks for the kind words Bob. I like the tool so much that when I heard the ball bearing is discontinued I bought one from edcknives. I owned one before but no longer have it. When I heard it was being discontinued I bought another right away. I am sure the new tool will be great, even better but I had to have one of these in my collection.

Mat, I can't wait for the edc model. I bet more stores will pick that one up.
