This was made between 1930's to the late 60's
It's so pitted the only markings I can make out is the number '55' but these look to me like they were stamped after it was made  :-\
I have tidied up the badly sharpened edge and point, still don't know if I will re-handle it yet :D

(Image removed from quote.)
Nice job Tony.  :salute: Leave the handle will ya..  :pok: 8)

Its not mine, its a picture I copied (but I can't find who from  ::)  )
So I don't know if I should do the same sort of thing with mine or not   :-\  (I don't think I could do the rivets like that)

I think so if I don't bugger it up  :tu:
I am still in two minds as the ax is almost history   :-\ if there was a stamp on the side I would not think about doing it

Chicken  :pok: :pok: :pok: :D :D :D

The modded one looks like it almost has a glass breaker at the base of the handle   , the owner probably did that  .

Tough one on the handle mate  . The modded ones new handle looks a little short

That looks nice Tony  :salute: :salute:.
Tony how thin do you get your wooden scales , my little Italian project I have got it down to around 3mm tapered to the bolsters & it still 'feels'  too thick  :ahhh :ahhh. I do not want the feckers too break  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

Mine are about 3mm tapering down at the ends but I don't think it matters how thin you go as the glue and liners are holding everything together  :tu:

Although I have a lot of toys I don't get to play with or try them out a great deal
The GF wanted some trees thinned out in her garden so I took this lot to play with (aswell as my reciprocating saw   ;) )

I was in two minds about using the Kukri as the handle has developed a split but thought I should give it a chance even if it was going to break
I also took my cheap ax, stick chopper and machete  :tu:

I was very surprised how well the Kukri performed bearing in mind it was a cheap tourist one, the handle has held up very well so I am going to ignore the split that appeared over the winter

The cheap ax didn't do too bad but its more of a splitter than anything else

The machete coped quite well with 2” or 3” branches but its a bit too flexible and not really designed for wood this thick  :-\

My re handled stick chopper I used to split kindling, the only problem is the lovely handle I made is too thin and round for comfortable use so I will re handle when I can be bothered with it  ::)

Sausages on sticks

I have had a day playing in the garage with Axes  ;)

I made a metal wedge to firm up the big Ax used at the meet that became a little loose  ::)
Wedge is in the bottom right of the picture

And installed it  :tu:

Cut up a perfectly good pick ax handle  >:D

Looks like this after a bit of work  ;)

I think it needs to slim down a bit,  :-\  oooops maybe too much

This is what I've ended up with  :salute:

I need to test the little one to see how it feels

I have been working on my newest Ax which arrived from America this week  :salute:

I am reliably informed it is a True Temper Flint Edge Kelly Works. It is what is generally called a swamper pattern. I think it was made in the 1930 to 1950 time frame.

I was looking at getting a nice new handle for it but one didn't leap out at me from Ebay so I thought I will have a go at making one from a pickax handle  ;)

Meet Swampy  :D

After some finishing off, rubbing down and sharpening tomorrow it will be ready for its first outing with some testing  :viking:
