The seller had another one of these Supertools with Tool on the plier head so I bought it. We saw see when it arrives. Be interesting to see what the date codes are.    :)

I have a Supertool, new in box, with the "tool" marking on the plier head.
And for "new" I mean that the tool still has the warning sticker on it.
The date code on both handles is 0201.
Will post a picture when I'll have time.

Hi,

I checked mine too and they are stamped "USA", the ST200's are stamped "Tool". I swapped one of the ST200 and ST's serrated blades over. I like the original ST serrated blade, excellent to cut bread and rolls with. I am told using a ST to make lunch is a bit of an overkill. Interesting, it was said as if it is a bad thing.  :D

I include some pics.

Cheers,

Pete

I have to agree with all this praise for the original S/T. I got mine a few years back (£15??) off Gumtree.
The previous owner had attempted to inscribe his name, luckily for me  he wasn't very good at it, its very shallow.

But the tool itself is great. The floppy hunk of steel really gives me the impression it could and obviously has held its own.

Great collection guys!!  :tu:
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

I looked at my ST's and found the following a bit interesting:

ST Original  SS  0201/0201  "USA" pliers
ST Original  SS CC  0301/0401  "USA" pliers
ST 200  BO CC  1001/1101  "USA" pliers (this tool appears new and unmolested)
ST 200 SS  1102/0203  "TOOL" pliers

I'm wondering if there was a bit of overlap in plier type in the transition between the original Super Tool and the Super Tool 200 ?

I'll bet you are correct, that must be the explanation. :salute:

The SuperTool with Tool on the plier head came Monday:

1094 and 0198 date codes
Clip point knife blade
Small nail nicks
Matte file

A real mix of parts here. So is it a Leatherman warranty job, Leatherman using up old parts to make room for the ST200 or maybe a person making up ST's out of junked ST's?

I think the first or third are most likely, with my money on the third given the date gap on the handles.

That could very well be. If #3 is the case the person who was doing it is very very good as none of the knurled screw heads appear to have been tampered with.
