Pen EDC?
on: September 13, 2010, 02:05:18 AM
I'm looking to start EDCing a pen (you don't know how many times I've wished I had one with me). Any keychain pens recommended?

I'd suggest either the Inka Pen, or a Zebra F-301 Compact for keychain carry; the Zebra F-301 line (either regular or compact, as a backup) is all I use when I'm out to classes and elsewhere; still trying to work through a hodgepodge of other pens in my room, however.

I carry a fountain pen when I have shirt/jacket pocket, if not I use the pen on my climber plus.

I carried the F-301 compact for awhile - beware the clips, they do not take horizontal play well and will break. The actual retaining mechanism is kind of weak too, it secures into the top part with the keyring, and not at the base where you put the pen in, so if you don't push the pen in all the way... I've lost one this way. :P

Since then I started carrying a Maxpedition notebook thingy and I have full sized and other pens in that instead. :P
Got those frog legs.

I agree with the comments on the F-301 but still think it's a great pen.

I carry a Spacepen usually but if I have one my keys, it's this one:

It's really tiny and has been very useful.

Another one a lot of folks seem to like is the Valiant Concepts Stainless Steel EDC Pen.

Big fan of the Valiant Concepts pen as well.  I have one in Ti somewhere, but can't seem to find it.

I prefer the form factor and shape of the Fisher bullet space pen but had some issues with ink boogies... :-\ I eventually ended up using F301 refills with my Fisher and have never looked back. :tu: Mind you, that's not a keyring pen, but it's quite small and pocket friendly.

I thought I was alone!  :D  Every Fisher refill I have had has been utter poo.  I have switched to Lamy and they are far better IMO.
I'm back!!

If you need the pen just for occasional writing, one of those Vic pens are great (I have a Manager and a pen in my Compact and in my Swisscard). But if you want one for serious writing, get a real small pen, they are much more comfortable to write with.

I usually carry either Zebra F-301 or Fisher Bullet Space Pen, and I keep forgeting to order one of those pens that you could carry on your keychain;
I'm still deciding which one to order- Inka or PicoPen which is similar to Valiant Concepts Pen

I've got one of the True Utility Telepens like Nuphoria  :tu:

I also have a Vic Signature II which sees regular use as well  :D

I've got some nice work branded ones but my general work pen of choice is the Bic 4 colour pen  :tu:  I like to use different colours when writing and taking notes :D Not the sexiest pen on the block but it's my old faithful  :salute:

I used to EDC a fisher bullet pen but lately have not carried a pen.  I might be open to a keychain pen if I found the right one...

I think I'm going to go for the Inka. It just seems "write" for what I'm looking for ;)
Also, I keychain-carry a Micra ATM and when I get a Style CS I will keychain-carry that. I don't really need another MT on my keychain, and I like the utility of decent-sized scissors.

Then again, I'm not finding it on Amazon, and they are the cheapest and best 99% of the time, so I don't really feel like finding it somewhere else. I also like the True Utility's 7 dollar price tag, sold & shipped (for free) from Amazon. God I am such a fanboy.

Sooooo, anyone want to get me one?

These are really nice pens and comes with 3 refills.  I now have no excuse for being without a writing instrument.  I think there'd be a huge market for these in the states if they were to advertise here.  :tu:
