Following on from the Multitol Timeline i am thinking of putting together a "database" of what tools each multitool contains. It may take a while and i may not even progress much with it, but i was hoping people could add to this list of tools/features found on multi's.

ok after a bit of work i think i've got a layout i'm happy with. The only thing i would like is if some one could measure the width of the leatherman small and medium flat screwdrivers that would be appreciated (don't have access to any tools with them on)

Anyone got any ideas about this, does it seem like a good idea etc...?

You might break #23 (Phillips) into #1 Phillips and #2 Phillips.  Some tools have a #1/#2 Phillips driver and some tools only have a #1 Phillips.

There should be a way to put it on the Wiki- in fact, this was one of the reasons we launched the Wiki now.

Of course I have no idea how to do it, but I'm certain it can be done...  I'll play around and see if I can figure it out if no one else comes up with anything.

I'm sure there'll be a way to do it! Trouble is i can't just take a screen shot of it anymore as it's wider than my screen! (i could take multiple screen shots but that takes effort!)

Hmmm...putting it on the Wiki would be ideal, but I haven't seen a way to make Excel-style layouts yet. I'll look into it as well and let you know.

No it doesn't look like you can get excel proper on wiki, the closest i've found is basically just a table layout, which loses a lot of the formating. I tried exporting the excel file as a html file but it doesn't support the vertical text which means a very very wide document that isnt easy to compare multitools with.

I've converted your Excel spreadsheet into a PDF file (see attached) My hope was to host the PDF file somewhere (on the Wiki itself would be best) then link to it for viewing from a page on the Wiki.

But I don't know how/where to host or post or embed a PDF file. Any ideas anyone?

Looks good! But yeah the hosting is a problem unless Def has a solution...the other option is to export the pdf to a picture file, jpeg seems to mess the colours up but png seems to work (trying to find a way to export the excel straight to a png)

Tada!! Here's (admittedly quite large) pic of the database in its current revision. Nice and easy to distribute in its picture form, but it does mean that editing has to be done in excel and then exported out of excel but its a fairly painless operation.

If some one can be bothered the victorinox section is a bit sparse (mainly due to my laziness in searching the site) just need the tool selection info and the size of the screwdrivers (my swisstool is 150miles away  )

I went ahead and uploaded your spreadsheet picture onto the Multitool Encyclopedia. It was kinda wide, causing a lot of side-scrolling. So then I rotated it 90 degrees in my picture-editing software, and narrowed it down a bit.

I'm afraid the shrinking and rotating caused the red Victorinox listings to get a bit blurry. (Not sure if you wanted it shrank and rotated in any case)

Having it rotated does make it a lot easier to view doesn't it. I'll try and rearrange it in excel and upload a version fresh from there that should hopefully stop the blurriness.

Awesome, the encyclopedia is shaping up quite nice. In the end this Tiki combined with MT will makes us....dare I say....UNSTOPABLE?  Well it's a thought, there IS nothing like our site on the internet to date and I am amazed every day by the people and the ingenuity that is breathed into what makes this site what is it every day. MT is hard work but it's a passion, the Tiki/Wiki has alot of ground left to cover, and what is great is that us mods don't have to do it all. In someways the tools info is like mini reviews, and then they link back to the real review (if we have one). I just wanted to say that I appreciate everyones commitment and continued contributions to MT, if it wasn't for the users and collectors all of this would not be possible.

Thanks for everything you guys do.
(sorry to get mushy, watching this site grow is like watching your baby grow up)

Thanks (on behalf of everyone i think!) David but without the admins working tirelessly behind the scenes we wouldn't have a site to congregate on so don't sell yourself short on the praise front!
