The new war starts today...
on: September 18, 2007, 02:04:17 PM
Well, I'm officially at war starting today.  In a few minutes, I'll be heading out the door to see if I can find any squirrels.   :twak:

We're going "retro" today, so I busted out the old J.Stevens single shot .410.   Should be some serious fun.

Multitool wise, I've decided to take the X-tract.  We'll see how it works on those tough little squirrels :)
If you took all the intestines out of your body and stretched them end to end... you would die.

.410... you think that will be powerful enough?  Maybe you should get something a little heavier duty, just in case?

Well... no luck today.  We tried a new spot and there wasn't much action there.  I saw one, but it was between me and the road, and it's usually not a good idea to shoot towards the road :)

Can't count on me for air support... I broke my helicopter a while back!

By the way Mikey, Intelligence shot this earlier- thought I'd better warn you!

Yikes!  Was there anything left of them when you'd hit them with the muzzleloader???

I'm going to try to get out again on Friday :)

I would think so :)  I've always wanted to take my .44 squirrel hunting... but if I shot one, I don't think there would be any "useable" parts left :)

I see that despite the squirrel's research into genetic engineering, your team is still gaining ground!

Actually the hunting of the squirell with .50 is not unusual. I down charge the powder to 30 grains and do what is called "Barking" You hit the branch they are on directly beneath them and the shock gets them. Unfortunatly if ya miss the limb or trunk........ Well ya get a inside out rodent.

I used to shoot them with my compound bow.  The first onw I took was with the "judo" point.  My old bow used to pull at 83# and fired an arrow pretty fast.  The judo point that was not supposed to penetrate did the exact opposite and I got a steeming pile of squriell mush.  I resorted to using field points and they worked well and that was my ammo for a while.  One day I decided to "silence" a couple of lookouts on a deer hunt with an expandable broadhead.  I Bisected the little creature. :)

If you find yourself not having much luck,it's because the squirrels have their own aerial recon
